Re: GT missing from KTM site
Funny, I tested a S1000R on a demo ride and ordered it. A KTM 1290r came up and I bought it and canceled the BMW. Loved the 1290r. Two years later I bought my GT. I like the GT best as it does everything the others did but has a bit of wind protection and I have a place to lock my helmet when going to work.

Re: GT missing from KTM site
Cheers all,
Apologies, I've been hiding out in hospital for the last 3 weeks........but....... I put my hand in my wallet and bought the current issue of AMCN (Aus m/c news) magazine......... annnnd there is a major update to the SD-R coming soon to a bike shop near yu
So that is not an SDGT....... but they are the same bike with slight differences..... and I reckon the 2018 model GT has been pulled while the SD-R gets the GT's suspension and a stronger rear sub-frame and other stuff.
I think we will see the new GT appear shortly - the spy shots of the R were the usual 'looks ready for production' ones and KTM are probably just choosing to make the GT update as errrr, up to date as possible
This bike is just too good to be ignored........ even if it costs a bit more, it is so much more of a ride

Re: GT missing from KTM site
Interesting I now see the 2018 1290 GT back up on the KTM Canada and U.S. websites. I did chat with my dealer on KTM not offering the 2018 GT in North America. He did say that it was a premium bike that sold as good or better than its competition. He thought they did it to flush out the remaining 2017's in anticipation of the new and improved 2019 model. "Other motorcycle manufacturers do this from time to time".
Re: GT missing from KTM site
Interesting. I was told no models were coming to the US in 2018 as well. The 2018 is up on the website but there's spy photos of a redesigned one as well. I'm going to guess we won't see a unit in the states for over a year. I think there are still '17s they have to get rid of.

Re: GT missing from KTM site
G'day DaveW,
I was just trolling through the Aus KTM site a couple of days ago and they still had the GT with headlight like ours (but with super sexy black & orange paint schemes)......... But, the LED headlight upgraded 2018/19 model might take a while to appear on our floor space - yours were probably lifted off the back deck of the ship heading our way
........ or imported from the US like the last batch of GT's (lucky buggers.... we have to wait for KTM over in Perth WA to dispatch stock - if they get any ).
Cheers

Re: GT missing from KTM site
Hi Aussie Dave
Hope you are well and not seeing these blokes
It's all about demand with the GTs
I know here in Christchurch the local ktm dealer sold 7
It will be interesting to see how many they bring in.
I know I won't be updating.ive only just clicked over 15,000kms
Take care

Re: GT missing from KTM site
Ive been up to Boyds twice in the last few weeks DaveW (To buy tires and check out the 790) and there wasn't an 18 in the shop, so id say they would sell-deposit and order and wait till they are available for delivery. I could be wrong too

Re: GT missing from KTM site
G'day all.....
I just visited my KTM/Ducati/Suzuki/CanAm BRP thingy super store on Saturday (got a mate to pick me up as I still can't legally drive or ride without medical authority.......yet......
).
They were having an open day for their new Duvati showroom...... but I saw the 2018 model 1290GT (same as ours but different paint scheme) and the new 790 (very nice - now fit a screen & bags and call it a GT
).
So ...... 2018 model GT available (I like the new colours), but it's same as our 16-17 GT's..... the new LED upgrade must be due for 2019MY Couldn't find a sales guy to ask if the floor stock had any changes over our model's like up-down QS...... but if I was buying one now
... they look hot (still happy with my orange beast) but the 018 model is a looker
.

Re: GT missing from KTM site
How likely do we think it might be for a new LED "wasp-style" headlight to be retrofitted onto a '16 or '17 SD GT?

G'day doggy,
That retro fit might be a mission...... but I wonder if the extra set of cornering lights might be an advantage on a dark rainy night out on a lonely country road?

Re: GT missing from KTM site
I took mine for the brake recall and spent most of the time drinking free coffee and staring at the 2018 black gt, really smart looker.. when I left I found I had "impulse" bought the akropovic black slip on... it's actually quieter than the original but far nicer sound

Ktm have a sale on over here, it worked out at £650 about 1300 nz fitted. But gutted, the credit card bill arrived yesterday and the akropovic just managed to slip on the end of it... be paid for by Christmas

Re: GT missing from KTM site
G'day all........ this headline now obsoleted
....... see "photo's are out" - the EICMA release of the 2019 SDGT........
Many new features and well worth the wait.
I'm envious of anybody just about to buy a 1290GT in that they can choose from a very good 017-018 model on run-out pricing or just wait a couple of months (?) for the 019 with nice updates like LED mains, new screen, up-down QS, revised dynamic damping, neat styling tweaks, aerodynamic standard handguards, usb port, new colour schemes...... and all the usual amazing engine performance that we are familiar with..
