Re: Well That Was a Surprise...
Nice down here Dave, went out fishing by myself (no friends) got some good fish. 25C here today with a little cloud cover, Christmas day looks to be wet, but on boxing day I'm off to the annual Motorbike street races, says showers for Boxing day. Great days fishing, fish for tea, Snapper and smoked and Kingfish, and kingfish steaks. Enjoy picks. Merry Christmas Dave and the 1290GT crew here.

Re: Well That Was a Surprise...

My local KTM dealership is open over the Xmas-NY period, so I'll have to be careful not to go buying stuff just because I've run out of bike mags to read.......

The weather is surprisingly lovely - nice and cool with low humidity, someone must be looking after us

Unfortunately I've had a slight virus, made me fatigued and pale face'd and feeling stale in the tummy..... otherwise my plan was to sneak in my first ride on the GT while it was quiet (traffic) and cool......

Oh well, soon eh?.....

Was only off the road for a 6 weeks while my broken wrist was in a cast, i did just under 800kms today on the GT, its getting close to 30K now, big service coming up.Aussie Dave wrote: ↑Mon Dec 24, 2018 6:02 amNice one Davo...... man in boat, king of the sea, extreme hunter.....

....... Broken wrist......
....... you haven't tossed one of your bikes down the road have you
Anyway, good to hear your Gt is back and the wrist is healed.
I've just installed the K&N airfilter that I was intending to fit last January (when I thought I'd have 15k kms up).
Used a procedure from this forum and all went well..... bit of a fiddle, but it will be easier next time.
Best for NY
Ps worked on the bike for 3hrs on saturday arvo..... felt good (bit stiff from crawling around on the floor) which is a great sign I am more better than any previous attempt at playing bike mechanic......

Re: Well That Was a Surprise...

I'm booked in for the recall's on the 14th and I've splashed out on the ergo/heated seat so I'm committed to getting back on the horse.....

Today's dealership advice was that the 2019 1290GT won't appear on Aus floors until early March...

Cheers from the other side.......

Re: Well That Was a Surprise...
Cheers Brett,
I think the Euro shops will get first priority - even though they are in winter and we are in summer, but as Germany is a huge success for the 1290 (AMCN published they have bought half of all SDGT's made), and the UK is just a train ride away, they will get delivery way faster than us (bigger market too).
The boat has to dock in Perth and then the trucks/trains go from there...... maybe KTM might get some demo stock out earlier? Also, any production issues will be uncovered by our northern cousins before we buy.....
The 19 is the one to go for (if you can wait) but the 17/18 model is still a great bike....... hopefully someone at KTM is reading and thinks.... hey Aussies have sunshine and the northern hemisphere is closed for winter........ duh........

Re: Well That Was a Surprise...
So I guess things come in threes. I just had emergency open heart four weeks ago. Apparently I tore a valve in half somehow. No one knows how. The only plausible theory is bad dental work when I had a nasty abscess/jaw infection from a botched root canal three years ago. But if not that they had no answers as to causation.
ANyway Dave and JJ, hope you other two open heart dudes are well!

Good luck Rock, hope the opp to repair the damage went well. Un-fortunatly things do happen in threes, and your the third, there is a silver lining tho, i can stop worrying about me being the third.

Thanks Dave. You're in the clear. Though rumor has it your riddled with STDs so don't start celebrating just yet

Had my last appt with the surgeon yesterday and I was cleared to drive short distances which is awesome. Can ride my bike at the end of April which is fine because the weather will be shyte until early April.

Re: Well That Was a Surprise...
I'm sorry to hear your missfortunate Rock. But yes, I know exactly what you are going through. I just had my six month anniversary a few days ago and I'm doing fantastic. I can honestly tell you that my recovery went very well. The secret for me was a very positive attitude and sense of humor.
I also worked hard from day one on the recovery. I walked a lot on a "course" in my house and tried to get up and move around several times a day. I started formal cardio rehab in week five. It was highly recommended to me and I'm really glad I did it. Three days a week for twelve weeks while on a heart monitor, and trained nurses.
Best of luck. You sound like you have a good attitude.

Hey JJ, thanks and glad you're recovered. At first I was a little bummed because I was like "why did this happen?" and because I thought I'd be terribly scarred for good. Now I feel much better about things and no longer care about a scar, and being that I was glued together they say the scarring will be minimal. More importantly they said I was healing. I"m actually pretty cheery right now.jjscsix wrote: ↑Sat Feb 16, 2019 12:35 amI'm sorry to hear your missfortunate Rock. But yes, I know exactly what you are going through. I could not walk outside right away unfortunately, as the weather was like sub zero when I first got home. So I sort of lost nearly a week of walking outdoors. I walked indoors, but it was not a true solid 20 minute stroll. I still go up and around as I live alone, so I did all my cooking and cleaning. Though I didn't do anything strenuous. When the temps got above 30 I started doing brisk walking and have been doing so every day.
I find out next week whether or not I need cardio therapy. I wouldn't mind at least a few sessions hooked up to stuff so I can gauge what's going on with me and how far I can push it. My goal is to go as hard as allowable.

Am I riding??? I started riding at about ten weeks after my surgery. I retired Dec.31 and I typically ride four days a week now. My short rides are over 150 miles, and 350- 400 miles on a Saturday are common. I weigh 20 lbs less than I did before the surgery, and even riding my Ducati seems easier than it ever has.
Keep us posted on how you progress.

Yeah, that extreme is not good either. I've been in Houston in the summer, a particular humid one too, and it would have been too sniffling to walk in while recovering.jjscsix wrote: ↑Sat Feb 16, 2019 12:35 am

Ten weeks and you rode! You're my hero! They told me two more months from now so maybe they're being too conservative? Were you on blood thinner? I'm on cumadin/warfarin for another couple of months so they're don't want me to get hurt. That's awesome to here you're riding and have been riding. They took a month of my car driving restrictions so maybe they'll take another month of the riding restriction. Again, given the weather I can't ride for a good six weeks anyway.
I went into the hospital at a healthy 198 and left at 182. I lost tons of muscle. I atrophied quick. I was in another hospital prior to the one where I had the surgery performed and was on IV the entire time so I hadn't eaten in days prior to the surgery. I couldn't eat as my organs were failing due to the poor profusion of my circulation/blood, as well as the afib I was in for two days. When I got home and looked in the mirror in my birthday suit I almost cried. My body had literally melted. I've put on a few pounds since thankfully, but I need to regain a ton of strength I lost.
Two months ago I was bench pressing and squatting well over 200lbs for reps, and now I can't even lift ten pounds. I'm going to need allot of patience with my recuperation process.

I was on Plavix for four months. They did not tell me not to ride while I was on it. Plavix is only a problem if you have internal hemoraging. I cut myself a few times and had no issues with the bleeding.Rock wrote: ↑Sun Feb 17, 2019 2:53 pmYeah, that extreme is not good either.
