Re: Anybody running 20w50 amsoil
I am always skeptic towards manufacturer recommended brands. But for brake fluid for instance, KTM recommends Castrol Response super Dot 4 first, and then Motorex Dot 5.1. I don't see any real reason to deviate from KTM's advise. It appears to me that they recommend whatever works best. Doesn't mean that anything else won't work. But why risk it? It's an expensive bike as is.

Received the analysis from my 2nd oil change. Similar results to the Motorex oil from the first change, the main difference being the mileage on each sample. The Rotella T6 had around 3 times the mileage on it the Motorex did.

No. I would say they are both good but the Rotella is much cheaper. I refuse to pay a premium price for the Motorex when the Rotella is just as good.Marki wrote:Knee jerk is the rotella is better oil but without a same mileage test?
Now, the loss of viscosity might make me change oil brands to something else to try and find a brand of oil that maintains it's viscosity levels longer than the Rotella. Maybe that ends up being Motorex somewhere down the road or maybe not.

Shouldn't you boys down under be running 10w50 and not 10w40? According to the manual 5w40 is for under 0 degrees C.

Hi I am just about to do a an oil change on the 1290 and noticed that my local ktm dealer put 10w50 in after the first service then switched to 10w60 for the last three, anyone else in Oz using that weight?

Just be wary. My dealer tried to tell me the oil specs had changed to 10W-60 from 10W-50, but I wasn't buying it. Checked myself to find no changes in spec and then discovered dealer was purchasing 10W-60 in bulk.

No reason that this oil (10W-60) is going to be any reason for concern.Joe1290 wrote:Just be wary. My dealer tried to tell me the oil specs had changed to 10W-60 from 10W-50, but I wasn't buying it. Checked myself to find no changes in spec and then discovered dealer was purchasing 10W-60 in bulk.
