990, 1290's & MT09's, my latest a 2018 MT09SP
Hi Kev, I'd actually be interested to see mods and improvements discussed around the mt09 if you run or are part of a similar forum around it? I haven't had the opportunity to try one yet unfortunately.

Dropped the bike at Tuneboy Hornsby today and will get it back next week🖒
The best thing is to join Yamaha MT Owners.... Australia Face book page all my work can be forund there & some of it on the FZ forum: http://www.fz09.org/forum/10-fz-09-buil ... -mods.html

I reflash all my own ECU's & reflash around 100 x MT09s a year, I have done a lot of work in the 8 x different 09 ECUs, you can read about on the FB page.

I am wondering about the tuneecu maps for the stock bike. Are these optimized maps for a stock bike, or the maps that come stock on the bike?
I'm looking for something to improve engine running generally(if there is something better than the stock map, I just want it running as healthy as possible.) and possibly smoothen the throttle snatchyness a bit. I'm ok with turning off o2 sensors.
edit: It concerns a 2011 model

#14 & #15 are for the non-modified bikes, optimized and smoothed maps. #13 if you removed the secondaries.

Start there and see how bike reacts. Always save your stock map to backup first. :)

Hi all,

I didn't get much response when I submitted the post below last summer. I since made one more map which I have been using now for a couple of months without any issues. I have removed the logging equipment and mounted the lambda gauge on the handle bar. Lambda mostly stays around 14,2 when cruising now. At some throttle positions and RPMs it goes as low as 13,5 and as high as 14,8, but you can't really notice when that is happening. For instance I don't get any exhaust pops whatever I do. I remember forum members have had that issue with other maps.

Lambda at bigger throttle openings is still between 12 and 13 so don't worry. :D

Anyhow just out of interest I was wondering if there are any forum members that currently are running Kevs map #20 that would be willing to try my map. Just to see how it runs on other bikes. Preferably in Europe where we have the same fuel. (I don't know how much it varies between north and south Europe)

My latest map can be downloaded here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/upgy27ay8wqz5 ... 7.hex?dl=0
Akra with baffles here, no SAS, no 2nd flies, no O2, MH airbox, short/std stack.
Until now I have been riding and modding all sorts of maps, Kev's #20 feels very good, Tommy's mod7 was almost perfect. I substracted 2% from both tables and it was even better, smoother. It may be needed because of fuel differences, or perhaps restricting baffles?
I hestitated for long to try mod8, because of how good the bike behaved on mod7.
But mod8 is the best I have tried till date. I also substracted 2%, lowered the idle and turned EPC off as I always do. It is super smooth down until 2k rpm, below nothing with two jugs can be smooth anyway :)
Less popping on deceleration, I can live with that (it may be due to leaking exhaust, need to get to that).
Thanks Tommy and Kev!
2013 SMT Black Akra with Y pipe and baffles, some orange bling, no SAS, no 2nd flies, no EPC, no O2, MH airbox, short/std stack, Tommy's mod8 Kev's #20 map, 16/41, Ergo seat, #19 pin dash hack, crash bungs, LEDs, KGR52, Scottoiler, Pirelli Angel ST

Hello guys,

i bought 990 SMR which definitely has a race setup at the moment. the fuel economy isn't best (~100km/tank).
Could you please recommend me some custom maps from the list, which should be okay with my mods and still leaves me a good torque response with satisfying fuel economy.

Bike has:
PCV
Akrapovic slip on with no baffles
Rottweiler intake
SAS removed
O2 unplugged and blocked with small cables
I ride with 98E in northen europe (Estonia)

I'm very thankful for any response!
Regards!

SAS removed
O2 removed
EPC disabled
2nd flies/shafts/motor removed
standard airbox completely removed and DNA MK3 with SMT/RC8 stacks installed
F/L switch points set to 50%
rev limiter raised to 10K

F* me dead that's drinking Jaan !. You must have 1m flames coming out of your pipes when it backfires and smell like Biggles when you stop at a cafe/pub and people are looking at you because of your RON98 smell ?

I'm running Kev's #20 map (everything in Nervous's setup accept the power commander and running Quill pipes with the silencers removed). I get 200km per tank before the bingo light comes on. The SMT has an 18L tank, but still you should be getting at least 150km town use.

If you have your secondary flies on and you want to try a map without them you should set them to 100% open through tuneecu.

I can also share my custom tuneecu map made on dyno for:
European fuel (greece)
DNA mk3 airbox
Long short stacks
With Secondary flies on
SAS removed
O2 removed and disabled
Leovince with baffles on

Average consumption 7.5lt/100km
Power feels pretty linear on the road.
Engine brake is higher(normal) than with flies removed.

Dyno chart with map #20 before (but with flies on as tuner asked), custom map after.

Quick question on Reset Adaptation.
I loaded Map 20 and ran reset afterwards.
Is it normal during 15 minute period for bike to idle high. I was up around 3k for a while.
thanks

Curious if anyone else has/had this problem and what the fix might be.

Using Tune ECU to Read Map, it says KM626EU1102001Map. Should say #20 Long short stack 09.10.13. as that is the last map I loaded about 4 years ago when I did all my mods.

Anyway, here's more background: read map, save, open file, choose #20, download. Status bar on the bottom works, shows 100% and complete. Do 15 min rest. Connect Tune ECU again, read map, but it shows KM626EU1102001Map. Have tried multiple attempts to load anything, even to save and reload that map, just slightly changed. No change. It doesn't seem to be wanting to actually take the download, yet the computer gives no indication that its not working as it should. (There is a significant difference between the two maps as I explain below for those still interested in reading.)

I would just leave it as it is, seeing as its worked ok for years. Here's the thing though, I have recently been having strange power issues on start up. Basically, self test fine, then hit the starter, all power goes out and I get an error message on the screen. Give it a few seconds and its back to normal. Anyway, got a new battery, so that shouldn't be an issue anymore, but the only reason for mentioning it, is that since the first power hit, the bike has gotten terrible gas mileage. Nearly half of what a normal tank gives and nothing about my riding has changed. I commute, so all things are pretty equal and I've been riding the bike almost daily since new in 2012.

The gas mileage issue is what got me to set up Tune ECU again and check it out. The obvious thing I noticed is that at 15% throttle and 4000rpms where almost all values around it are 3000-4500, that particular cell is at 6184. Seems a bit outrageous, but would explain the gas mileage issue, as I generally ride at 4000rpm, due to the engine being smoothest and that generally works out to the speed I travel in top gear.

So, I'm at a loss. Anyone have any thoughts?

Map name shouldn’t confuse you as if I’m not terrible wrong all maps -even modified ones- have this kind of names. In order to be sure this is a modified map, check secondary throttle (unticked on map 20, ticked on Ktm map) or download a Ktm map and use the compare function on tuneecu.

Regarding fuel consumption, have you checked if both fuel taps below fuel tank are wide open? May be the one is closed accidentally.
Power issue you refer is typical for drained battery. Check ok then you hear a ticking noise and everything goes blank. I don’t exactly recall the error message but should be the battery message.

Even on Kev’s thoroughly created maps there are cells with spikes like that. When I did my custom map, the tuner smoothened them out during remapping.

Thanks for the tips. I think what I was trying to point out was that the current map has a particular cell that is high, which is significantly different than the #20 map it should be. That alone is what I'm going on to assume that the map is not loading, as even after loading, when I do a map read, that cell is still at the same value. The graph views also look visually different enough to notice the change, if it was working correctly.

I did change the battery and checked the fuel petcocks, so those shouldn't be part of the problem.

Just a quick question that I have not seen addressed. Does it matter which TuneEcu map is used for particular model years of the SMT? In other words, can I use a map made for a 2009 SMT on a 2013 SMT? Are there any issues regarding other possible conflicts due to different ecu model years? US or EU? With or without ABS, etc?

Personally, I'm guessing there's a lot of differences. Looking at my standard map, (mines a 2010) and other peoples standard maps, they don't look the same.
What I think we need to do is to learn how to interpret the maps, and adjust them accordingly.
Ideally the map needs to be adjusted whilst on a rolling road. I've found plenty of places that use a rolling road, but only using a power commander, which I do NOT want to use.
So far, I have not found anywhere in the UK that uses Tune ECU on a rolling road.
So if anyone knows of anywhere that does, I would love to know.

Hi Everyone, I've recently got Tune Ecu and have used it to adjust my TPS voltage which has got rid of a surge I had at about 3k, but now I'm looking to have a play around with some maps! I am told by the last owner that my bike already has been mapped for better low down smoothness. Am I right in thinking I can download and save this map from the bike so I can always go back to it later?

Here are the specs of the bike:

2012 SMT ABS Model
Wings exhaust cans with baffles fitted (too loud for the neighbours without!)
SAS delete using plates and resistor plug across the connector
K&N air filter
2nd and 3rd gear ignition retard eliminated via the wire method (electronic power control I think)
95 Ron Fuel (UK)

If anyone is able to recommend me a map based on the above, I'd really appreciate it. I'm looking forward to having a play around with the software!

Thanks in advance :)
