Crap, can't do it. Wife's schedule changed so we're bumping my celebration to Sunday. Hangover to Monday.
Will try to catch you next time around.

Re: Seattle Area SMT Ride, May 2012?
I just picked up a brand new 2010 SMT about 10 days ago and joined this forum a few days after that. I live in Capitol Hill and would love to join you guys for a ride. The date's 2 days before my wife's graduation though, which means it'll probably be a busy weekend for her, which means it'll be a busy weekend for me too. Count me in tentatively and I'll let you all know for sure sometime that week.

You fellas have a good time. I'll be on the east coast during your ride and can't make it.

Re: Seattle Area SMT Ride, June 10 2012
Following are the ride details. This is a West Sound, Olympic Peninsula route, instead of the Cascades as mentioned earlier.
Date: Sunday, June 10 2012
Starting place: McDonalds on Bainbridge island, WA.
Take the 8:45 ferry from the Seattle (Coleman Dock). It is a 35-minute crossing and costs about $5 for a bike and rider. Once you get off the boat, take highway 305 north toward Poulsbo. Travel about 1 mile and McDonalds will be on the right at High School road.
Meeting time: 9:30am
The ride will explore the northern part of the Olympic Peninsula, including some out-of-the-way roads on the Toandos Peninsula, great twisty roads up to Hurricane Ridge, sweepers with nice views along the Straight of Juan de Fuca...maybe even a short graded gravel road, if folks are game. The map shows the approximate route from the SMT ride in 2010...but I am also proposing we take the 90-mile loop of Highways 101/113/112 to the west of Port Angeles, which travels along Lake Crescent and the Straight.

Re: Seattle Area SMT Ride, June 10 2012
The Seattle weather man is predicting partly cloudy and 60 degrees for Sunday, June 10th...but he is usually wrong. I predict a sunny 65 for the SMT ride on the Olympic Peninusla.

This is the Highway 101 loop west of Port Angeles that is missing from the previously-posted map.

Re: Seattle Area SMT Ride TOMORROW
Seattle-based people catch the 8:45 ferry to Bainbridge Island.
I'll meet you guys at the McDonalds restaurant (at Highway 305 and High School road) on Baindridge Island. We can have a quick coffee if you want, and there are two gas stations right there.
Kickstands up at 9:45.
Weather forecast looks nice.
My mobile number is 206-334-0927. Text or call me if you have any questions, or get lost.

Re: Seattle Area SMT Ride, June 10 2012
Three of us set out this morning at 9:30am. Sven990 (Steve), Dethrider (Benjamin) and KTM Island (Eric).
Temperature started at about 55F, but sun broke through. Topped out at 64F.
We had a nice ride, dry roads all the way, with beautiful views from the top of Hurricane Ridge...and still snow on the ground up there. The twisty road to the top is like it was made for the SMT. We all found the loop west of Port Angeles (highways 101-113-112) to be an outstanding mix of sweepers and tight sections. Highly recommended. We got back to the staring point on Bainbridge Island at 6:30pm, having traveled 320 miles.
Cruising along through some tiny town.
Eric, Benjamin, and Steve on the top of Hurricane Ridge (snow in backbround)
Taking a break at Lake Crescent

Re: Seattle Area SMT Ride, May 2012?
Hey guys. Can't believe it's been a year since that ride. 10k miles on my bike later...
Uploading these photos have been on my to-do list since then. They're not great, so the priority's been low.
Anyway, that was a great ride. Thanks, Eric! I'm always up for another if anyone wants to rally the troops.

Looks that way, but it was a warm, gorgeous spring day. I did have to borrow some warmer gloves going up the ridge though...

Let's do it. How about June 9, 2013?
Who wants to plan a route? Or we do the same one?

Ugh, bad time for me, as it was last year. That's my birthday and I'll have family in town. If we can push it a week in either direction, I'd be in.KTM Island wrote:Let's do it. How about June 9, 2013?
