SMT vs SMR Seat
SMT vs SMR Seat
Looking for a lowering option for our SMT. Have heard the SMR seat is a little lower and narrower. Is this an option?
Re: SMT vs SMR Seat

Re: SMT vs SMR Seat
I can't see there being anything lower than the SMT seat as you are almost sitting on the frame rails as it is. I would say they are definately interchangeable.
Re: SMT vs SMR Seat
Yes they are. Swapped them on our showroom.

Re: SMT vs SMR Seat
If anyone with the SMR and wants a lower seat, I'm interested in trading my SMT seat.
I considered just buying it but then I'd have no use for the other.
just throwing that out there.

Re: SMT vs SMR Seat
has anyone actually tried the SMR seat on the SMT? I find the bump up at the back of the operators seat annoying and forces you to stay in one spot. I'm wondering if the SMR seat would be better for moving around to move back etc...
Anyone?
Anyone?

Re: SMT vs SMR Seat
I fitted a SMT seat to my 2010 SMR, the SMT seat is more comfortable & lower than the SMR.

Re: SMT vs SMR Seat
OK- not sure you understood my question...
I'm looking for a seat that doesn't have the big bump in order to be able to move around more and not be forced into one position.
I guess the best way to answer is to just buy the SMR seat and give it a try. My concern do that is if its rubbish then I just blew a bunch of money for something else to collect dust in my garage.

Re: SMT vs SMR Seat
The smr seat is a dirt bike style seat. Has no hump/dished out portion. However, it is a stiffer foam and not as comfortable. I recommend cycling shorts while using the smr seat for long distance. The smr seat is taller because it removes that hump so be aware of that. If you don't want it taller I suggest finding a local upholstery specialist to suit your needs.

Re: SMT vs SMR Seat
I modified my seat and took it to a upholsterer to restaple it. I have an article about it in this section (~Feburary 2014).000 wrote: I'm looking for a seat that doesn't have the big bump in order to be able to move around more and not be forced into one position.
Basically, I had your problem. My natural sitting position is with my bum back. Being forced to sit forward reduces my ability to counter steer and corner the bike at high speed.
The SMT and SMR are the same seat, except KTM put a little riser on the SMT seat before fitting the seat cover. If you want to convert, unstaple the cover, remove the riser, and then restaple (take the seat into your local upholsterer like I did.
Yes, you can lower it a bit like I did, but you will be sitting on the plastic base and get numb bum. But I would rather trade that for a better seating position.
I used a dremel planer to re-shape my sit.
I'll try to dig up the article.

PS/ Taking seat to upholsterer gives you the option of getting super grippy seat cover

Re: SMT vs SMR Seat
Hi
New SMT owner and after smaller 450 supermotos I hate this seat. is the SMR seat more narrow? is it just this hump that is the problem?
comfort not as big an issue as cornering to me

Re: SMT vs SMR Seat
I think I'm ready to try the Corbin seat on my SMR. I pulled a groin muscle a couple of months ago, and it seems like my whole mid section won't heal. I think it's because there's no scallop on the SMR and my lower abs have to work hard when I give it full throttle (which is happens a lot).

Re: SMT vs SMR Seat
I don't believe Corbin makes a seat for the 990 SMR. Only the SMT which uses a different seat pan. They make one for the 2007 950 but the seat is different. The plus side with Corbin is they make their own seat pan it seams based on the photos on their site. So just be aware that it is dished out. If that is what you are going for.
