GT and the Booster Plug.

Post by R Williams » Fri Feb 14, 2020 4:51 pm

Hello all, just fitted a Booster Plug to the GT, but havent tried it on the road yet mainly because of the horrible weather. Anyway, I have read that after fitting the BP, some people let the engine idle for 10 to 15 minutes , but theres no mention of this in my instructions so was wondering where this info came from ?.
Many thanks, Roger.

Cheers mate...... KTM tech told me, and DaveNZ was told by his local people. I think it lets the ECU adjust the tune through the O2 sensor probes...... but I'm only guessing.

It probably doesn't need doing with the Booster Plug if your GT had the O2 sensors already installed - we had removed ours so would need to do the 10min idle to reset the tune after re-installing them.

My cousin works at my local KTM shop, so I'll try to ask him one day if it is BS or when it is really required, but 10mins is actually the time it takes to idle up to temp and get the fans to cut in.

Cheers.

Hello Aussie Dave, thanks for that. The bike is completely standard, but I will do the 10minute idle just to hear that lovely engine ;) . Regards, Roger.

10mins for the 1290, and 15mins for the 790. I think time is to get the motor up to temp so that the fans turn on.
