Coolant flushing issues

Post by Alchemistioan » Sun Dec 02, 2018 5:16 am

Need some help. Just got my radiator repaired & I am trying to fill up the system with coolant. Got the front of the bike raised as recommended in the manual (50 cm to be precise), opened the radiator cap & the nipple on top of the radiator. Now, according to the manual, there is one bolt on either side of the cylinders which should be removed as well, which I did. This is where the coolant should overflow out of. I filled up the radiator but no coolant drips out of these holes. Am I doing something wrong here? I also raised the front end of the bike even further but no dice.ImageImage

Thanks! Looks like I was opening the wrong bolts. The repair manual has them mixed up. As soon as I opened the right bleeder bolts, trapped air escaped and coolant came out. Definitely a messy job! Going to fire it up tomorrow and make sure everything is good to go.

There are rather nice pics and some discussion about the subject on the other forum: http://www.superduke.net/forum/viewtopi ... 28&t=25227

Is it 2 years already? We did change the coolants in our bikes when we adjusted valves... Now, a few weeks ago I bought 8 litres Motorex M5 because I am not sure the long-life coolant that we filled 2 years ago with was silcate-free. Have to do that (coolant change procedure) again this winter.
Do like the others do, you end up being like the others, so... Well, seems to be a lot of KTM riders around. Well, not around here but around the world... :D
