Constands CENTRAL STAND EVO or Abba SUPERBIKE

Post by Aussie Dave » Fri Jul 20, 2018 1:15 am

G'day all,

Has anyone got one of these types of stands? I like the Constand version listed on Motea (mostly because they are having a "summer sale" and the reduced prices help offset freight to Aus  ).

The pull handle up and step forward action looks natural vs push down action of my s/s paddock stand.

But, there aren't any pics showing all the adapter parts with the stand for the 1290GT and Motea seem to think I'm after a 'Lift' version..... .

The Abba stand looks to have a lot of fiddly bits, but at least their video shows how it clears all the levers/pegs/etc while the Constand looks similar.......but has no video/GT photo's - I'd feel better if I could see an assembly diag or the stand front view....... ;)

I'm looking at this type as it appears to be the easiest way for me to lift the rear (being a heart surgery survivor, I don't think I will be able to muscle my La corser KTM copy s/s rear paddock stand ever again....... tried using my boot too, but no go on that technique :( ).

Cheers Dave

OK, everybody is out riding in the good weather.........  .

Anyway, Motec found the assembly diagrams and that has resolved my concerns - so I ordered a Centre Stand Evo (40% off rrp). Should see it by the end of July 8-)

Cheers all........ keep shiny side up :)

I bought the Abba stand. Only one bit to each side. I "fixed" the bits to the stand with double sided tape, and no longer worry about them falling off just as I get set for a lift. I like the Abba, and recommend it to anyone still looking for a stand.

Cheers guys....... not much to talk about here either........ got my order in just before a price rise so :D . Hope the Constand version is as robust as the Abba stand and as easy to use!

I'd say most SDGT owners are out riding the summer away....... nothing to gripe about....... just ride it and smile  ...........

i will know how well made my new stand is by next Monday - it's in the o/s freight terminal waiting for a big bird to pick it up and drop it over this side of the planet....

Not much traffic around here lately Dave, sorry you have to chat to yourself. Post picks when you get your new stand. Oh hope your healing well mate, id hate to see you miss another riding season on the grunty GT. I've had some big speeding tickets lately, so a bit gun shy, so been taking the Multistrada on the back roads to get my speed fix without getting into more trouble.

Initially I thought it would be too big a lift for me in my present state of healing, but I gave it a go and up it went :) .

I like it, it is better than I thought and very well made. It solves my immediate problem but is also a very clever stand for every day use - no fiddly bits, the adapter pins are made to stay in place and the whole thing looks like it was built to hold the Bismark up in dry dock........... :D

Cheers all.......

@Aussie Dave: Great looking stand. Will make chain &tire maintenance a snap. Did they offer/did you also order the extra rail to enable lifting front wheel as well? Yours appears very similar to my ABBA lift. Same principle exactly, pins and all.

Cheers Mr Clogan....... I don't think they offer the front lift combo like the Abba stand....... but I didn't require it as I already have a 'La Corser' front steering stem lift stand (another KTM stand copy which I can use even in my dilapidated post surgery state  ).

Had I known what I know now 18 months ago............. Anyway, I saved over 40% rrp in the Motea "Summer Sale", so the freight charges to Aus were well compensated......... ;).

Ps Aussie importers have a sneaky system in place now, whereby any product with an Aussie agent, cannot be purchased from an overseas manufacturer or dealer..... the websites refuse to process and refer us back to the Aus agent, who charges full price (and more - as though the freight is added again).........or they simply refuse to stock the things we seek....... if they charged a reasonable price/carried stock, I'd happily buy locally.... :)

I've got the abba simply because a mate was selling it cheap though honestly I haven't used it yet, I need someone the other side to monitor until a gain confidence in it ( still got 3 years payments to go ;-) )

Love the KTM SDGT Center Stand. Makes Maintance a Breeeze. Have the ABBA but, several companies make them:

Hi Mick, Google Abba superbike stand video's online......(if you haven't already)..... there are several and they show how to use the stand safely...... one I watched even showed the guy get on the bike while it was raised (to demo how strong the stand is).

As always, install the stand properly (see the video) and then it's an easy pull on the lever and it's up ;)

I always double check my work before the next step....... but once you use it the first time, it's a breeze the next time........

Cheers.......... ps you are able to buy the front wheel lift accessory for your Abba...... but I'm not sure how well it will work with the big fat SS swingarm on the GT (might get grubby chain lube on the strap unless the "bobbin" can be fitted)...... but it is a very clever slip on system.... 8-)

Used my Abba with front wheel lift accessory yesterday, while installing new front tire for my SDGT. Worked like a champ! Easy, stable.

Cheers Gary,

I use www.motea.com/en for Constands (weird name eh?....... but no con... ). I cannot find my "Central Stand EVO" on the manufacturers website........ but it comes up easily on Motea's site :)

The Abba stand is more clever because it can be adapted to raise the front wheel (google video's) - I haven't seen anything for the con stand (even though it looks very similar to the Abba).

These lever pull forward stands are easier to use but they do raise the rear wheel higher than a rear axle type stand.

G'day Mr C....... :) Just curious...... how did you attach the lift strap? Did you put a 'pin' into the rear axle or does Abba supply a "bobbin" to screw into the swingarm like in the video's (no Gt demo so I'm curious how it works for us)........

Cheers from Aus.

Abba supplies a bobbin that fits inside the rear axle. Alas, the very first time I used the lift, I forgot to remove the bobbin. When I went for a spin, the bobbin was lost somewhere along the way, never to be found. Abba sells replacement bobbins, but since I'm such a cheapskate, I just used an 8" piece of PVC pipe for my own bobbin. I forget the diameter...maybe 1.25"...anyhow, it's what I had lying around in my shop, and it works perfectly. Plus, if I lose it, I've got plent more!
