Not so smooth gears?

Post by Hardyrider » Sat Jul 14, 2018 8:03 am

Advice please.

2012 SMT, rides perfect but struggles to get into first gear when stopped. A BIG clunk when I first drop it into first when stationary after that when moving goes through the gears lovely.

Changed the clutch jet to a .05 new one, Oberon upgrade and fresh clutch oil (back filled) and yesterday new oil and filter (10w50 fully synthetic) and still the same?

Is it pointing to the plates?

Hi 'Hardyrider'

SMt 2010 with 57000 km.
It's the same on my bike, a quite big 'clunk' when putting in first after being in Neutral. A bit better with warm engin but not too much difference. 0,3 standard oil jet. Sweden, and it's not to hot weather normally. Except this summer of course! Crazy temperatures... and NO rain at all...

(Due to the hot temperatures I'm almost about to say 'I'm glad a had that accident on 20:th of May', but that would be a lie... I would prefer to be able to ride with healthy body although the high temp., compared to sit in the wheel chair most of the daytime.)

I always blip mine before putting it into gear (ie: clutch in, blip throttle, put in gear). When I do this, it's a nice engagement. If I don't, it's a nasty half engaged crunch sound, everytime.

Really? Havn't tried that. So pull the clutch lever and then just a short twist on the throttle to rev a bit and put in the 1:st gear when rev is 'dropping'?

Drop it into gear as soon as the engine goes back to idle. Frees up the clutch plates. I've always done on bikes, but the SMT needs it - shit clutch design IMO.
