Ibex Crash Protector Bar

Post by Aussie Dave » Fri Jul 13, 2018 3:38 am

G'day all,

Has anyone fitted a set of Ibex crash bars to their GT yet?

They look great in pics but I'd love to see a front on shot to check how wiiide they look on the bike. At last I found they are made of steel and come in orange/black/silver...... 8-)

The SW Motech bars are probably the most secure but are fairly big..... can't find enough photo's of the Ibex style to 'see' if they are up to the task of protecting the tank without making the GT look like a tank  .

Cheers all. :)

Me again.....

Agonised over the colour....... silver matches lower cowl......but orange looks nice (not too much 'orange').. black would be nice too (not so in-your-face)........ arghhhh....... Motea had only orange & silver in stock at a discounted price from Ibex's $199Eu - $150Eu so all resistance crumbled and I pulled the trigger on a set of orange bars.

I eventually found the assembly instructions on the Ibex site - it had a nice 'exploded' diagram and some better pics which answered my concerns... ;)

So, while I rattle around home recovering, I will have something to do to my GT when the package arrives from Motea... 8-) .

Cheers from Aus...... struth..... 6 DegC this morning...... that's cold here in Brisbane Aus

Motea don't muck about........ it's on it's way :) ...... prob get it early next week...... that'll give me something to play motorbikes with

They also sell Con-stand centre lift stands....... I wish I had known this before I bought the La-Corsa's  ....... anyway, I think I can find a way to make the rear stand easier to lift (I'll try standing on it instead of pushing down with R-arm  ) - if that doesn't work...... Motea might have another order coming... :)

  Today is National Ibex Day   ....... well, that is, my delivery from Motea has arrived (unfortunately for me, it landed at Melbourne Airport and Aus being as large a lump of land as the USA, it took as much time to Brisbane as it did from Germany to Aus...... ).

Anyway, my orange crash protectors are installed and are as slim and neat as I had hoped :D

One other advantage to this design is that it won't break your leg like some of the bars that fit closer to the riders legs might (these are well forward of the riders legs so are less likely to save the bike but cripple the rider in a wobbly legs off spill........ ;) ).

Cheers all........ was gonna wait for my new center stand but it was such a lovely afternoon I had to go and play with myself in the garage.....

Thanks for sharing. The Ibex protection bars look fantastic. The SW-Motech crash bars provide protection in a stopped drop but, the KTM SDGT tends to want to roll over. The Ibex product looks like a better solution. Best,

Doc :) :)

Cheers Doc, The SW Motech's on your GT are mounted at three points and would (I think) be a lot stronger than my Ibex bars, which are only mounted on two points (but have a connection through the front).

They are however solid feeling and now that you mention it (roll over's), would let the Gt lay flattish in an oops moment. I only thought I needed them now that I'm a weakened heart surgery survivor...... wouldn't want to damage my pride and joy (or my shattered ego) in a parking lot oops or a u-turn on gravel etc...... so these look like they will be good enough to cover me until I'm fully cooked and back above 95% recovery (prob in 2019)..... ;)

I always wondered how many GSA riders might have watched their bike roll over and over down a hill with those massive oem bars.

Now there's a thought....... maybe your SW M's will make it easier to pick the GT up should you ever suffer the embarrassment of letting it lie down for a rest......... ;) I hadn't thought of that...... I'll still need help to lift mine if I ever drop it.......

Regards from the other side
