2018 TFT Display Odometers/Fuel Consumption/Range

Post by HouTexSuperDuke » Wed May 16, 2018 4:25 pm

The odometers (main and trip), fuel consumption indicator, and range indicator seem to be way off on my '18 SDR with the TFT display. I checked the odometers (main and trip are in line with each other) against my riding buddy's on his '17 SDGT and I am consistently showing about 20% more miles. Consequently, my fuel consumption is showing 52 MPG vs. his 43 MPG and my range to empty is also way high. This is totally unreliable and I wonder if there is an issue with my display (my buddy has the analog one on this SDGT). Does anyone else have this problem? I definitely need to address this while the bike is under warranty--I sure don't want it showing 20% more miles than actual for resale purposes.

Well I’ve never trusted the fuel gauge on this but this is the first bike I’ve had with a fuel gauge. I always go by miles I do from fill up.

I alway assumed that just the fuel gauge was off, thus messing up the mpg rating (way off on my bike). Give me a week or so to go on a ride, and I will try to figure out if the odometer/trip are off.

UK mpg are 20% different to US mpg are they not? Perhaps it has the wrong program in the computing area, just a thought.

Did 40 miles tonight with the sat nav to compare mileage and filled up while I was out to compare the trip computer mpg estimate.

The mileage was 2.5% high and the mpg was 4 mpg high. The mph reads about 7% high.

When I brought the bike and it had the standard exhaust and it was 10mpg high, it seems to have got more accurate having changed the exhaust and installed the akra map.

The range to empty is crap, I dont even look at it.

I stopped giving the range/mpg any cred as well. Mine tells me I'm getting over 40 mpg, and it is more like 25 to 30.

Did you get anywhere with this?

I thought my bike was gaining miles very quickly. Going to check it out today by mesuring against my phone...

Update. Check my miles against an odometer app and the bike is bang on. The sheer fun and speed of the thing is obviously racking up the miles deceptively quick.

I've checked my odometer against other riders and feel that it's pretty accurate so I'm convinced my fuel consumption/range inaccuracy issue is due to a defective fuel level sensor and will ask my dealer to order a replacement part under warranty. When I gassed up on a ride today my trip computer (that I reset each time I get gas) showed I had gone 138 miles, I had a range to empty of 130 miles, and I was getting about 52 MPG--the fuel gauge showed 1/2 tank left. I put in 3.06 gallons which is more like 63% of the tank's 4.8 gallon capacity, not just 50% as the trip computer and fuel gauge indicated. With 138 miles and 3.06 gallons used this calculates to 45.1 MPG which is a lot more realistic for this bike. There is no way I was going to get 268 miles out of that tank--at the actual 45.1 MPG that would be 216 miles on a full tank.
