Well That Was a Surprise...

Post by Aussie Dave » Fri Mar 23, 2018 3:08 am

G'day fellow GT reprobates..... this isn't really a teething problem for the GT.....but more for the rider :o

Just a note to remind everyone to take good care of their health....... i eat healthy, exercise, never smoked blah blah ;) ...... and have ended up in hospital waiting for a coronary by-pass operation....... :o

I've been told I had a virus for the last 6-8 months and finally had a stress echo cardio test which alerted the problem was coronary (not viral) and the angiogram revealed a blockage in an awful position that couldn't be stent'd safely (bugger)....... so out with the chainsaw on wednesday and stitch some by-pass veins in so I can get back on my GT asap........

Naturally recovery will vary, but I hope to be ok to drive in a month and maybe to ride in 2months.....I'll find out soon enough ;)

Best wishes to all - at least i have dodged a bullet that would have taken me out permanently had I not persisted to find the true cause of my ill feelings

Ps I'll be off the air as I can't keep my laptop bedside in the big hospital.......groan...

Good job finding the problem. These kinds of developments are always worrisome. Get well and get riding.

Jeeze Dave that’s a bloody shock, what a bugger for you, these things must come in 3s, my good mate just had a triple by pass, and my 42 year old youngest brother just last week had a heart attack, and he’s had 5 stents put in, but like you a few more can’t be repaired. I hope you heal well my good friend, and can enjoy many more GT miles. I’ll be thinking positive vibes for you. :D

awwww crap, lost the draft again........

Many many thanks for the well wishes my friends :D

I've come out of 3 weeks in hospitals in great shape and heading for a solid recovery.

Will be 3-6 months before I am allowed - or - are game enough to put my still healing chest bones to the test of a GT ride......... but I know I am fixed, and just have to be patient and wait till the wounds heal properly ;)

Once again, cheers for all the great messages :D

But Wait....... There's More.......... Here's the gory details .........Look away now .....photo of 60yo albino Aussie might provoke nightmares........

  Cheers Brett. Just call me 'Scar' eh?

I put up a good fight too...... but no match for the chainsaw the doctors had waiting for me.......

Better than dying but holy cow Batman....... best to be avoided if it's just diet and lifestyle related (unfortunately mine was family genetics related so no matter how 'good' I was this was always going to happen :( )

Feeling more normal everyday..... chest pains are almost gone already (but I'm not really doing much at 2weeks out from surgery). Gotta play the long game and allow the body to heal...... big reward waiting in the garage for when I'm glued together strong enough to throw a leg over ;)

Well that was fun........ :o

Fainted while at 'Outpatients' waiting for my appointment....... ended up in ED again (bloody cold aircon) and then in a ward for the weekend (no bloody TV......arrrgh...... missed the Moto GP :( ). Will have to catch the replay on Friday morning....... ;) .

The Doctors didn't really know why I keeled over, but at least it wasn't cardio related so I'm greatly relieved.

Medications adjusted and back home now....... all part of the fun........ visited the 'rehab nurse' today and felt much better (she was a good looker too ;) ) about my progress......... so now all I need do is get on with it and stop worrying about every little twinge. Gt is patiently waiting for me........ new electric opening garage door is ready for install ......... just have to let wounds heal and then the fun can re-start :)

Cheers all.

Hi Dave,
Me ol man had open heart surgery in is early 70s
He always said his chest felt funny (As in moving) and took awhile to settle down as the bone needs to grow together.
Maybe a few more visits to the nurse might improve your (have to be careful what I say) 🙉
I will leave the imagine open

I'm picking up my GT tomorrow after waiting for the rear tyre pressure sensor to be fitted after the shop broke the last one really a month ago
Haven't done to much riding lately...... been to busy in weekends

Take care

Cheers DaveW,

My (get this terminology 8-) ) CABG wound (pronounced by medical staff = 'Cabbage' and short for 'Cardio Arterial Bypass Graft'.......yeah and I thought all graft was money... )..... is wired together and feels very solid...... gotta remind myself not to lift our fat cats or other objects.. ;) ....... I'm starting to feel better than last week - that faint in hospital out-patients put me back a week or so in terms of walking and feeling good, but all seems to be returning to 'good' now - hey, I've had a couple of almost full nights sleep too :) .... rather than waking every 2-3 hrs for a leak - so the medications/trauma etc must be settling down........ groan, only 4 weeks....... time passes slowly when you can't ride/work/drive/..... ;).

Thank goodness Dave you got the life saving operation in time, A mate had the similar op befor christmas quadripple by pass, he had 2 months of work and 3 months off the bike but 6 months on he’s nearly back to his old self and rider fit for 2 up riding. But today I heard of another bike friend, on Sunday he didn’t feel well and had a lie down on the couch, his wife checked him 30 mins later after thinking he was asleep, but he was dead, well no pulse, she tried resuscitation and rang for an ambulance, but he’d died, and it was from a heart attack, very nice guy, only 47.
