2017 Super Duke Race Prep

Post by Snaggletooth77x » Mon Mar 12, 2018 5:32 am

Currently prepping my 2017 Super Duke R for racing some tracks in the great PNW and some AHRMA battle of the twins rounds. I’ve been racing an RC390 for the last couple years as well as this year so I figured I would spice things up with racing this every once in a while and the great thing is it can easily be swapped to be street legal again.

Pretty stock at the moment but adding the parts listed below and will update along the way.

Arrow exhaust and mid pipe w/cat delete
Rottweiler intake and SAS delete
DynoJet PCV piggyback module
Wave rotors on new spare wheels
Airtech bodywork an KTM racing seat
GP Suspension fork cartridges
Penske rear shock
Misc axle and case covers

Here’s a shot of the baseline Dyno run before the Arrow exhaust and stage 4 Rottweiler intake is installed. Sorry for the hard to read image but it was 158hp at 9750rpm and 97 ft lbs at 7200rpm. Not too bad for the amount of wheel spin on the Dyno.

Still currently waiting for the Rottweiler Stage 4 intake to come in which was ordered 5 weeks ago, apparently they were back ordered on there velocity stacks. Anyhow I should have it in this week and Dyno results which I will post once complete.

I did receive my Airtech bodywork yesterday which I'm very happy with the quality and craftsmanship. This was the first time I've ordered anything through them and I highly recommend using them in the future. The front number plate looks like something from Predator.

I received a bunch of parts which I started to install over the weekend. I installed the Arrow exhaust and Motohooligan rearset plates. I received my spare set of race wheels with wave rotors, still need to get the rotors bolted up and tires mounted. The Rottweiler intake still hasn’t come in after 8 weeks.

I am putting my Graves 3/4 exhaust up for sale, dm me for pricing if interested.

So I finally received the Rottweiler Stage 4 intake and had it installed and we ran it on the dyno to make sure the mapping was correct and see what the gains would be. Turns out we actually lost about 6 peak hp but the bottom end was smoothed way out. We have a crossover in power and torque at about 7500rpm. Keep in mind that the baseline dyno run I had already installed the rottweiler SAS removal kit, K&N air filter, Akra ECU flash and Graves 3/4 exhaust. Everything seemed to work well and the AFR was right where it needed to be, I'm happy with the bottom end gains but a little bummed out about our peak hp loss. Time to start fitting all the race bodywork and getting this thing safety wired so I can race it next month.

It’s been a bit but I’ve been busy. Most of the bodywork and new wheelset have been fitted with the wave rotors. I just need to get the bellypan fitted, race numbers on and coolant swapped out. Then comes the real fun of getting the beast safety wired. I’m pretty happy with how everything has turned out so far, now for a trackday this Monday to see how she performs before our joint WMRRA/ OMRRA round next month.

So I finally got some seat time and the first race in on the Super Duke. Let’s just say it did not disappoint and I beat out a couple Panigale’s for the win which made it even better. I’m still wanting to upgrade the suspension in the front but besides that the bike rode great!

Next up are the AHRMA rounds, Miller at the beginning of September then Barber in October. I will be racing the Super Duke in Sound of Thunder and my RC390 in the Sound of Singles classes. At least that is the plan for now.

Nice to see you and the bike getting on so well. I am interested in your plans for the suspension. I have a 17 and find the fork a bit soft in tight stuff. If I do it I want to add preload.

My original plans were to replace the shock with a Penske and then GP cartridges in the front. I will most likely swap the front springs for the AHRMA rounds then wait for this winter to make the big changes.

How much of a difference did you notice between the graves and the arrow set up?

Just noise basically, we would of had to adjust the mapping for the Graves but didn't get around to it. The Arrow is much quieter and our local track has very high restrictions on sound. It does sound great though.
