Anyone try a Madstad windscreen yet?

Post by Rider » Mon Jan 08, 2018 5:54 pm

Just picked up a new GT Friday, and am feeling my age with the stock screen. I see the Puig has a lot of mixed reviews, and was hoping for some feed back on other possible windscreens. I ride year round here in the SF Bay Area and am looking for maximum wind protection for my morning commute.
The Madstad big screen looks interesting with the in and out mount adjustability. Cal science has one also that is much larger, just not sure about the stock mount with such a big screen?

I bought a CalSci...got the medium size. Very happy with it. Keeps cold air off better than OEM. Less expensive than Madstad

I can live with the ugly if I’m not getting blast. Shoot I’ve been ridding a 1200GS with a adventure windscreen for the last 5 years :D

Rider,

I have done both the Madstad the Puig windscreens.

The Madstad screen is good, very adjustable (up/down/titlt back, etc.) & allows for a GPS Mount of 20mm or 12mm. Have the 24 inch/ highest model with a 12mm GPS extension. ( https://madstad.com/collections/ktm/pro ... 6884882126 , https://touratech-usa.com/Store/12mm-to ... et-Adapter ). Very adjustable & would be good for commuting.

Switched to the Puig (https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/pui ... -2016-2017 ) with the Bolted MRA Touring X-Creen (https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/mra ... iler-blade , https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/mra ... ersion-kit ). Puig is fine at < 50 mph. Windscreen set up does look funky/ butt ugly with the X-Creen on the Puig but, allot more wind blockage at highway speeds (>70 mph). Usually, takes me 3 to 4 hrs on the highway to get near the mountains. Fortunately, the bolt on MRA X-Creen can removed after I get where we are going.

Wish someone/ anyone made a tall windsheild for this KTM SDGT. CalSci will not work with the handlebar guards I have installed.

Best,

Doc :D :D

If anyone would like the Madstad set up (24 inch Madstad & GPS Extension- $289 + $84 = $373) will sell for $200 but, you pay shipping. Best,

Doc ;) ;)

I hate screens, the smaller the better.
2016 1290GT-remus link and muffler, 2010 Black 1200 Multistrada full Termi system with mapping, 2005 SMR 640, full Titanium system, Mikuni flatside racing carb, 2 sets of wheels, 18 litre tank, and a nice soft seat.

Opinions vary...I think the OEM is pretty unsightly. ..and the Puig is just plain awful.

But, opinions do vary.

KTM SDGT Windscreen yet?

Post by GaryCulb » Tue Jan 09, 2018 12:10 am

Windscreens, Seats, Tires, Oil, Fuel, etc. Never read a motorcycle tread where there was any consensus.

Agree, most of the windshields for the KTM SDGT are less than optimal. Best,

Doc :!: :!:

Sounds good I hadn’t decided on what handguards yet, but that makes it a easy decision!

I got the Madstad windscreen installed last weekend, and now have a few days tof testing now. It’s just what I hoped, a nice calm pocket of air now even at 100mph!
Thanks Doc

I’m really loving the Madstad. It is the 24” windscreen, and I have it set about 2” down. It’s perfect for me at only 5’9”. I get just the right air flow in my helmets top vent with minimal noice, can’t ask for more.
