RC8R 2012

Post by Daniro » Sat Jan 06, 2018 3:47 am

Hey guys, I'd need your opinion on small dilemma I have. Recently I got a chance to snatch 2012 RC8R with 6000 KM on the clock, previous owner couldn't get used to it after switching from inline 4. Now, I'd like to hear your opinion on reliability and common faults that I should know about before buying? This particular one had faulty oil pump from the factory and had engine seized after 3k km. Engine and pump were changed under warranty at KTM service and has done 6k km since. I rode it for a while and seemed to be smoother than my 1290 SD. I appreciate any advice anyone has about this. Thanks

I had one, sold it after I brought a 1290 as I wasn't using it. Apart form the usual KTM issues, clutch master cylinder, petrol leak on tank due to distortion, the only issue I had which I couldn't sort was occasional false neutrals when going for it.

Apart from that I found it lovely after a S1000RR, which would tie itself in knots, while the RC8R handled better and behaved itself under power, was even a good tourer and comfortable.

Idea behind getting it is to replace my SD on the track and occasional canyon carving. I think i will go for it, so hard to resist. And after onwning only KTM's since I started riding, I'm not too confident switching to something else to be honest.
