Trip from NJ to GA, TN, NC, SC, & VA in May
Just added the KTM accessory LED headlight kit as I'm planning a long trip in mid-May from New Jersey straight to Georgia & back up through Tennessee, (Smoky Mountains) S. Carolina, N. Carolina, Virginia, Maryland & back to NJ. Estimate a 2500 mile trip.
LED kit directions were well presented & installation went smoothly. Purchased from http://www.ktm-parts.com. Used promo code & received 10% off.
Have a custom windshield coming soon from MadStad Engineering. Will post pics once received and installed.

I will do this trip in a week. Day 1 will be the the longest leg. From NJ to GA I estimated 800 miles. This will be an endurance test. Once in GA I'm meeting a friend to ride the next 3 days in GA, TN & SC.limeyduffa wrote:cool.. how long do you reckon it will take to do ?

Re: Trip from NJ to GA, TN, NC, SC, & VA in May
Day 1: 05.17 - Left New Jersey, rode 865 miles through 8 states arriving in Georgia 15 hours later. Thankfully the weather was perfect, 60-70 degrees, partly sunny/cloudy the entire way. Obviously I was tired upon arrival, but not as beat up as I expected. All the improvements made really helped in making the bike comfortable for a long haul.
Day 2: 05.18 - Thankfully rained all day which allowed me to rest & regroup physically. Went to the movies & saw Godzilla. Not enough Zilla, too much human interest storyline. Needed Rodan!
Looking forward to spending the next 3 days in the Great Smoky Mountains of TN, NC, SC & GA! Weather forecast looks positive at the moment.

Day 3 & 4: 05.19/20.14. Rode 650 miles over what is arguably some of the best bike roads in the US. My 2 riding cohorts were each on Aprilia Tuono's & with intimate knowledge of these amazing roads, proceeded to show me how they get 'er' done in the South. Coming from the northeast, I've never been on roads this epic!
Day 5: 05.21.14. Rode 300 miles from Altanta, GA, throgh the Great Smoky Mountains to Kingsport, TN.
Day 6: 05.22.14. Rode 400 miles to Charlottsville, VA & stopped at Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson. Settled in Fredricksburg, VA. Day 7: 05.23.14. Rode the last leg, 300 miles home to NYC.
This was an epic journey! Amazing scenery, people, weather that cooperated & a fantastic SMT which was capable of the long haul with luggage & handle the twisties with ease!

Nice! I'm bringing my Smt home from WV to NYC (LI) and have a 2000 mile journey planned, we definitely need to hook up and ride in the future!

Let me know when you're ready. I have several routes from NYC through northwestern NJ into NY State & back. These vary from 150 to 300 mile days.
I did a 2100 mile week long trip last year to WV & back. Hundreds of miles with no one in front or in back of me. Great roads, but the lower Smoky's were better.

The one Tuono rider is friend of mine. The other is one of his riding buddies. They probably are on AF1, I didn't ask.Yoozy wrote:Nice one, who are the Tuono boys, off Af1 ?

Thanks. It was a long ride & yes my arse was not happy even though I had my seat modified by Americana Soft Seats & was wearing Zone padded shorts. Thankfully having to stop 6 times for fuel helped me stretch. My fuel range varied from 34-39 mpg. I always filled up when the light came on, but I still had one gallon remaining in the tank. I packed a gallon of fuel in my sidecase "just in case", but thankfully never needed it.Windblown wrote:Sounds like it was a great trip! Tip of the hat for that first days run.

You got it, I too have nice rides through NNJ and bear mountain area, but I am always down to tag along! Nothing like riding behind a local to ride the good roads!

In the 2500 mile range. I'm thinking about another trip in the spring. Probably not as far south though.
