Any Other Forums?

Post by St99603 » Mon Mar 23, 2020 4:33 am

Been a Duc guy for many years. Been looking at the SDGT, and been intrigued. So, I decided I need one. Bought a new '19 1500 miles away. Waiting for trucking company to pick it up. Been trying to read everything available. Which brings me to this...this forum is populated with few new comments. Lots of stuff that is months, or years old. How FEW KTM bikes are out there? I've got a 2003 Ducati ST4s, and there is plenty of forums and, or info out there. I doubt there is more of those out there than KTM's. Just an observation.....

G'day St99603..... from Australia!

This forum is a bit quiet these days...... it suffered a big problem in January 2019 that limited access, then didn't seem to recover from the loss of members to the other forums.

It is also an old 'platform' whereas most of the other forums are a newer easier to navigate/reply to threads format. I use 'KTM forums', and the 'adventure riders forum' is very big.

There are lots of SDR/GT owners around the globe..... only a small number of early model owners had some glitches.... thankfully most were down to poor dealership/importer issues..... most (like me) from 2017 on have had a dream run, especially all the lucky guys buying 2019/20 SDGT's (same bike) or those about to buy the almost all new 2020 SDR with the RC8 style frame...... lucky buggers......

The SDR/GT is very much on the sporty side of road/touring, but if it fits and suits your style, it can be fantastic...... but it is no low rpm chugger..... although I suspect your experience with the 90Deg Ducati has that issue covered. My 17SDGT uses zero oil and is light, has 420kms fuel range, carries more luggage than I need....... but has no onboard centre stand....... I've done 27,474kms(18k miles?) in 3 years (had some health issues so I lost a year in 2018)..... but others have passed 40k kms and at least one (Joe1290 ?) has exceeded 102,000kms with no issues.

I've also read that a lot of owners have fled to Facebook to avoid some forum negativity... but it's not a fair assessment to conclude that sales are low because this forum has gone quiet. Maybe it might get a revamp soon and attract more contributors.

Best wishes on your new machine..... give it heaps :D

Thanks Aussie Dave. Hopefully getting the bike in 2 weeks. We are about the same vintage....cannot honestly remember how many bikes over the years. Mostly euro, mostly twins. Only had a couple of jap 4's over the years. Always come back to the twins. Been mostly riding Ducatis for the past 20 or so. KTM been intriguing me....a friend said he'd buy the ST4s I got, and I found a great deal on the new '19 SDGT. Just got to get it now! I am an old Punk music guy, you got a great band down there called Amyll and The Sniffers. I hope to get there before I am old and useless! Hell of a flight though....Good luck with The Chinee Plague. We are ALMOST in full lock down.

 ....... Agree with you there St99,

We have closed our borders (or so the politicians say) and grounded our aircraft fleet (except for some internal flights)....... nasty business....... streets are quiet now......... lets hope it blows over quickly rather than dragging on for months or years.

Heard on today's morning news that Spain is now testing 4 treatments on humans as their death toll is going ballistic. Shocking news for New Yorker's too!....... I think uncle Donald's hope to get people back to work is about to be blown away, and now brother Boris in the UK has the bug......... Over here we let a cruise ship dock in Sydney a few weeks back without a health check, so our infection rate is now accelerating alarmingly while we argue about how much we should lock down vs economy.etc..... .

Lets hope Spain cracks the cure and we can get immunized asap.

;)

PS nearly forgot...... there is an SDGT sub section just a few steps down the page since you've splashed the cash on a 19GT then you are in the family now :)

Welcome ST. As you can see in my sig, I have a GT and an 1199 Panigale along with an FJR1300. I have 28,000 miles on the'17 GT that I bought new just over two years ago. My only problem was a stater problem. It always started, but often made a "screeching" noise and would momentarily lock up. It has been something of a known problem. It turns out that the torque limiter shaft on the starter was assembled at the factory with two spacers (washers) where it should have had one.

I love the bike but freely admit I'll probably go to a Japanese bike next because I retired a little over a year ago and I'm riding a lot of miles. My experience with many Japanese bikes is that they are mostly bulletproof.

My Ducati is seven years old and is already by far the longest I have ever kept a bike. It has also had by far the most problems. But I love the bike and it makes no sense for me at this point to replace it. It's kind of like a mistress that my wife already knows about and is okay with because now she doesn't have any guilt about not having fantasy sex with me anymore (as if she ever did).

Ducati's are like a sickness. They torture us, and we go back for more. I had an 851. Breathtakingly beautiful, fast and a true classic. It was the MOST uncomfortable bike I have ever ridden. I just couldn't ride it anymore. Got a ST4s now, I think I am going to get to of it when the SDGT arrives, too similar. I may be retired also, not sure yet. Got hurt at work, and may be done.....more time for riding. Have had a couple Jap bilrs over the years. I always seem to come back to Euro, and twins. I am pretty sure I am going to really like the SDGT.....
