Do SMR grab rails fit a SMT?

Post by bigred » Thu Sep 22, 2016 11:50 pm

Hi All
Having made an aluminium plate to get my top box onto my 2013 SMT I really don't need the plastic luggage plate that is integrated into the grab rails.

Does anyone know if SMR grab rails as pictured would bolt straight onto my SMT?

It should do. The subframe is exactly the same on both bikes and the mounting holes look identical. That said there might be a slight difference in the rear panels. You can turn an SMT rear into an SMR rear and vice versa. For instance the SMT luggage frames can be removed and to make it look like the SMR but you need the exhaust hanger spacer to make it work.
Have a look here at the parts fiche for both models and compare part numbers:

Thank you gentlemen.

Now it is a matter of finding a way to get the parts for a fair price! In Oz the grab rails are at least $113 ea, in the States they are $51 - but KTM won't let US suppliers post OS so I need to use a freight forwarder - who charge an arm and a leg.

Don't suppose anyone has a set of SMT grab rails lying around? :-)

I have swapped on my SMT for handles from a 990 SM. They also fit bolt on.
