MRA Vario Screen?

Post by Stormin » Wed Jan 25, 2012 11:53 pm

Has anybody tried the standard screen with one of these "clip-on lips"
I would be interested to hear if they were any use

Stormin,

Do you have any pics or links? I might be interested in picking up a "temporary" screen/lip for touring duties.

Where it is at right now I get quite a bit of wind noise. Not buffeting per say, just a lot of noise. I've contemplated trimming down the factory screen or removing it all together just to eliminate the noise.

I thought I had heard of them. Twisted Throttle here in the US carries them. http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/productlist/194/

And you're right, they are not cheap. I might look to see if MotorcycleSuperstore or Revzilla carries them. As both those sites offer 30 day return policy. Maybe pick it up, give it a go, and if it doesn't work out then I can return it and only be out the return shipping.

Been down that road. The touring screen works well for me. If I did want something quieter etc would go with the cal sci windshield. Put one on my S10 wow huge difference.

I don't want a full touring screen cos I have no real problems with the standard screen save the air(and flies)hitting me on middle of visor.Thought maybe this would be enough to direct blast over my head. Also I don't suffer from noise or buffeting

Then the MRA attachment just might work for you.

Could I add to the mix, the Touratech extension and the Laminer Lip
Has anybody any experience of these?

I looked into the X-screen bolt on but it's mounting points are wider than the stock screen.

I was happy with the laminar lip on my SV650S but I switched to the Vario because it looked nicer and the heavy duty velcro didn't last very long. They stuck very well to the windshield but the velcro part would pull away from the adhesive.

Last I looked, there was no Vario or laminar lip available for the SMT. I emailed laminar lip and they said that they'd need to see the bike in person. It's likely that a laminar lip for another bike would work.

Can anybody tell me if there's one for the SMT and where I could get it?

I have a MRA Vario screen on the Fazer and it's excellent. It replaces the entire screen and isn't cheap but is adjustable depending on how much deflection you want. They don't do one yet for the SMT (just the SMR) as I'd be interested to try one. I have seen various bolt on 'wings' but they didn't look like the greatest quality and you need to drill the standard screen. Can't for the life of me find them again though.

Anyone found a wing/spoiler/deflector similar to the "MRA X-Creen Sport Add-On Variable Windscreen Spoiler Blade" that fits the stock SMT screen? (as pointed out earlier the stock SMT screen is not wide enough for the MRA fittings)

It helps much with the givi screen. Touring vibes too much. Stock...its better without.
But this is a personal thing, height, riding style etc.
I'l find some photos with givi on.

I use a Palmer screen. Works a treat. My bike came with a KTM touring screen fitted and I hated it. Loads of turbulence and thrumming. Palmer screen is quiet and smooth.
Its fairly big though, so I bought a standard screen recently thinking it would look a bit cooler on a track day but went back to the Palmer after a couple of rides. It wasn't as bad as the touring screen but compared to the Palmer it was noisy and harsh. It scratched much easier when cleaning than the Palmer as well.
