Pics to follow. From Austin to Amarillo is not worth writing about or riding. Stop at the http://bigtexan.com/ even if you don't take the 72oz challenge, it is worth it. They serve a good steak. After Amarillo, go west on 40 and then head north on 84 to Las Vegas, NM. The ride on 518 to Taos through the Sante Fe National Forest is pretty good. And the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge it worth stopping for a few pics. From there 64 west across the Carson National Forest. 64 to 84 to 160 to Durango. And this last part you need to be dressed warm, 550, the Red Mountain Pass https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_Grande_Gorge_Bridge. Check to make sure it is open. After 550 all of the adventure is over as you take 50 the rest of the way into Grand Junction, CO.
If you take this route you will have covered two of Colorado's most dangerous roads; the Red Mountain Pass (550) and the Wolf Creek Pass (160).
