Exhaust decat question

Post by Dukerydr65 » Tue Jul 26, 2016 8:24 am

I just got my new Superduke R and bought a Graves carbon exhaust with the decat and k&n air filter. I want to install it but I'm concerned about needing a retune on the ecu. Will it be ok to ride for a week or two until I get the tune done? And is there anything else i need to worry about?

I wouldn't. I'd want it remapped before riding it. Its probably going to run lean which isn't healthy. If you're having a custom remap you might as well fit a pancake airbox as the original is very restrictive by design, even with a K&N. I use a Rotweiller which are good value but to my ears stage 3 DNA boxes sound less harsh. Also if you go the custom map route remove the SAS beforehand and the lambda sensors and fit plugs.
I think if you're going to uncork an SMT it makes sense to go the whole hog from the start.

I also found out 2013 is the last year dealer in the US can change mapping for our EPA regulations. Maybe Euro is different, but I bet not by much. You may have to develop your own map, or a Dyno-Jet tuner.

My dealer got back to me and said they would remap it like they originally said they would. My SAS should arrive before my appointment, so I'll install the new K&N and remove the SAS the day before I take it to them. Thanks for the responses guys, I've had multiple bikes that I've used some sort of power tuner or had them remapped, but I just wanted to mak real sure with this bike.
