Exhaust hanger change and pannier rack removel

Post by micksmt » Tue Jun 23, 2015 9:50 am

Ok had the bike a few weeks now, fitted Wings exhausts, akro map installed with tuneecu, turned off EPC, O2 sensor and SAS turned off and disconnected, (16 teeth front sprocket fitted and RC8 throttle grip/housing fitted by previous owner) now its time to remove the side pannier racks, have got the part numbers for the SMR hangers and side rails.
1 x Silencer/handle Holder L/s 07 (6000508500001S)
1 x Silencer/handle Holder R/s 07 (6000508600001S)
1 x Support Sidecover Rs Rear 09 (62608042150)
1 x Support Side Cover Ls Rear 09 (62608041150)

So as anybody got any old SMT hangers they don't want, need, might cut the hangers down or any SMR hangers they want to sell.

UK based.
Cheers Mick :D

Before smt hangers and after fitting the smr hangers, all went well and the holes all matched up, someone else had problems on another tread, used the old rubbers and bolts only needed 2 more m8 bolts. With the wings I had the SMT exhaust brackets fitted, but I also had the SM brackets as they are different for each bike,
Cheers :)

I'm not quite sure what you'be done there.
What are the side panels fixed to? I've got the aluminium exhaust hanger spacers from the SMR (part no 44 on the fiche) but the SMT panels don't fit over them properly and without the pannier brackets there is nothing to fix them to. Are you using SMR side panels as well?

In his first post he details the part numbers for the side cover supports so he is using the smt panels with plastic support brackets to fix them with

Yes I saw those but I can't place the parts on the fiche. I tried ordering the necessary bits from Trevor Pope and they didn't know either which other parts were needed to support the side panels. If its only a matter of some plastic supports I'll use my alu brackets and get rid of the pannier racks.
I did consider buying a second set of pannier racks/brackets and cutting them down but I couldn't find any S/H and I might get some aftermarket throwovers so the originals could yet come in useful. But it would be nice to lose the scaffolding for day to day riding.

Hi the extra parts are no 14. 15 in the photo, 2011 smr mask frame, they are only £4.20 each they replace all the metal frame and your original SMR body work just screws to them.

Hope this helps, if you need some photo's just let me know, it only takes 5 mins to take the side panels off.
Cheers Mick :D

Hi, the price is £23.34 x 2 for the Hangers, £4.20 x 2 for the plastic frames plus postage, and 2 m8 bolts from the spares box in the garage ;) But I got the hangers new from jjay51 for £30 all in then just bought the frames, so for me £45, The hangers are the expensive bits. :)
