Akrapovic hangers, removal of luggage racks

Post by steviegasgas » Wed Sep 04, 2013 12:33 am

Hi, I want to remove the luggage racks so that it thins up the back end, I cannot seem to find any information on hangers for the Akra's.
Has anybody got an idea where I can get some??
Cheers.

yep, I've done mine, any steeler will have get them for you, I'd suggest they will be able to look up the part numbers as well, but it a good idea to know what you want. Look for the SMR parts list, I can't attach it for some reason, but Google is your friend, get the same year as for your bike. For my 11 plate its page 13 parts 44 and 45 and page 18 parts 14 and 15, cost wil be around £45. If you PM me your email addy I'll ping it over to you. :)

Akrapovic hangers, removal of luggage racks

Post by Teriyaki Man » Sat Mar 22, 2014 8:03 pm

Mike does this look about right?

6000508500001S
6000508600001S

I'm thinking of doing the same but can't find a clear diag. Bikers Jersey seem to have these at £20 each which seems ok.

I've got a set of smr hangers going spare. Came with some exhausts I just bought but I'm probably going to stick with the standard SMT hangers.

PM me if you're interested.

Cheers

Removing the original exhaust hanger/pannier bracket and replacing with the SMR brackets/rails actually means the Akrapovic exhaust fits the bike much better. On close inspection you can see that the 'geometry' of the OEM SMT bracket is not quite right, skewing the carbon fibre hanger strap and not wrapping to the can body snugly. The SMR hardware on the other hand fits like a glove and also allows for removal of the heat shields that, providing you don't want to fit the panniers (I don't), gives a much better look. The CAT-less Akra cans run much cooler too and if you also remove the SAS system there's nothing to worry about on the temperature front ... I can place my hand on the cans after a multi-mile hoon without getting burnt :D

Here's the exhaust mounting bracket and side rail part numbers you need to convert from standard SMT to SMR set-up:
1 x Silencer/handle Holder L/s 07 (6000508500001S)
1 x Silencer/handle Holder R/s 07 (6000508600001S)
1 x Support Sidecover Rs Rear 09 (62608042150)
1 x Support Side Cover Ls Rear 09 (62608041150)

You'll also need to buy a couple of bolts but any hardware store will stock them

These bits just do away with the original Exhaust/Pannier hanger and give you a single bracket (to mount the exhaust with/to) and the side rails to which the rear plastic body panels attach. The rear rack and grab rails are retained.

Ketone did you get your brackets? I have some that you're welcome to. I don't want anything for them but it would be good if you cod cover my postage.

Hi Shaun,

Yep. I got your message.

You can have the brackets for a tenner, incl postage. A couple of things you need to know about them first.

Mines a 2012 SMT and when I fitted the brackets the holes didn't line up with the holes in the side panels. One of them was miles out and the other was about 10mm out, so I drilled a small hole in the side panel so I could get at least 1 screw in. That said, they were solid and you couldn't see where I'd drilled the panel, plus when I refitted the original luggage rails you can't see the new hole I drilled.

The bike looks great without the luggage brackets, especially if you have aftermarket pipes without heat shields. It really cleans the back end up. Dead easy to fit too. I had them on in about 30 mins.

Let me know if you're still interested.

Cheers

Allan
