just ordered FMF slip ons

Post by Billb » Wed May 30, 2012 7:39 pm

So I just ordered up some FMF mufflers for my 2012 SMT, and I see that they sell a "quiet insert" separately for them.....is this something I should consider? Just how loud are the FMF's anyway? I assume the inserts would affect all the data on remapping as well.

Not that loud, I wouldn't worry too much. The FMF come with Spark arrestors anyway, but I bet you will be taking them out

When you say FMF, do you mean the APEX versions??? I've got a friend who has these on his Superduke, and their easily as loud as my Akrapovics (you can see what their like in the video section), if not louder. I'd buy the DB Killers just to be safe

Apex versions?? I don’t see any mention of different versions on their web page. These are called Factory 4.1 SL, id# 045423. That is the only designation I see.

DANG I like!! ....I wish I'd have seen these before, maybe I can cancel my order and get these instead. Makes me wonder why the FMF web site don’t list them :?

I'm not sure if they make them for the SM T, but seeing that they made them for the superduke i thought that there was a good chance. If they don't make them for the SM T, then you could make them fit. I wouldn't think there would be too much in it????

Older thread, but I thought I'd throw in...

I've had these on for about the last 2000 miles:

https://www.denniskirk.com/fmf/titanium ... 435624.sku

If they're the same ones you ordered, then yes, they're LOUD! I think they sound great, but opinions vary. I don't live in an emissions-control state, so I don't care how loud they are. If you want to tone them down a bit the quiet inserts should do the trick.

That deal from Dennis Kirk is about the best I've found. The build quality on the FMF's is very high, and they bolted right up in about 15 minutes. They weigh a full 9 pounds or more (each) less than the stock catalytic converters as well.

The FMF's were backordered from the manufacturer and I couldn’t locate any from another source so I ended up getting a set of Akros. Mounted them and installed the Akro 2011 map a few weeks ago....I like! The next step is to install the CRP air box and PCV I have on the bench and remove the secondary flies and SAS. Then I’ll start playing with some of the custom maps that Kev links to…..eventually I will make the 200 mile trip (one way) to the nearest dynojet tuning center and have them build me my own custom map. Life is good! :D

FYI, after speaking to FMF, they have no production plans for building the previously posted SMT pipes. The customer service rep said some back orders are over a year old.
Mods: arrow exhaust, 2nd flies removed, plugged air injection caps, JC30-80 air filter, 44T sprocket, 80w high beam, short levers, weighted bar ends, Rox risers, remapped ecu, heated grips, horn, radiator screen, crash bar, skid plate, backrest.
