Akrapovic exhaust question

Post by crossroads » Fri Mar 23, 2012 5:01 pm

Does anyone know if the Akrapovic silencer for the SMR could be mounted on an SMT? I am looking at a full exhaust system(headers and silencers) coming off a 990 SMR and I have the SMT. The price is right and I'm weak...must...have...

Hi,

The headers and cans are identical but the carbon mounting straps are different.
You could either:
a) Buy the mounting kit for SMT (if KTM sell them separately)
b) Remove SMT heat shields / alloy mounting brackets and replace with SM(R) alloy mounting brackets
c) Make up your own bracket to allow mounting
990SMT 09 (orange 1s are faster) - Akra evo system, DNA Mk3, 2nd flies & shafts removed, SAS removed, O2 sensors disabled, PCV with custom single cylinder map, FTR fork & shock re-valve, tail tidy, SMR grab rails

Correct. I have done c, but must add that about b two separate parts are needed:
Parts 14 and 15 of the image below to hold plastic sides:

Part 44 and 45 to hold the carbon mounting straps:

I´ve got a good deal on a Akra slip on suited for 950 SM/R and 990 SM/R and now I wonder if its possible to keep the heat shields and brackets for luggage bags, or do I need to make the rear end looking more like the SM/R to make room for the cans?
Does anyone have some pictures of such an installation? Help would be much appreciated..
Art no for actual slip on : 625.05.099.000

Thanks!

You can fit the Akras on an SMT fine (the SM bracket for your Akras might need a little persuading to fit).

Also, Don - the 14 and 15 in your picture are wrong if you want to fir the short heat sheilds from SM (rather than the very expensive CF ones from the SMR) - you need the 14 & 15 from an SM - they are different.

Actually I want to fit the ones of SMR 2011, but done in carbon by a German company, 199$ for both. I will post pictures soon...

So I can keep heat shields and luggage brackets with a slight modification of the brackets for the cans?

These are from SMR. No change.

Thanks! Nice bike!

And you can mount luggage brackets and heat shield without problems?

Yes, I removed them, adding some spare parts from the SMR, because my goal is to use the carbon heat shield SMR-type. But mounting keeping the brackets and heat shields is seamless.

The part number 626.05.099.000 comes with catalytic converter and EC certificate, whereas the 626.05.099.200 is only for racing, without EC-certificate. The cat is usually in the muffler itself, so I imagine the version with the cat may be longer, but all other dimensions should be the same.

Actually not. In Akras the cat is in the Y, and can be removed.

I wonder what the difference is between the systems? Here in Sweden the slip on 626.05.099.200 is 1,5 times more expensive than the other.. 18000 SEK vs 12000 SEK

Weird, I thought I saw a pic of the cat at the start of the muffler, might have been a different brand.
