Bag locks

Post by vet57air » Fri Sep 22, 2017 7:41 pm

I am replacing my bags with new. I will need to change over the locks from old to new to my bikes key. Anyone know how it is done?

I just looked though my paperwork and this manual doesn't explain how to remove the cylinder, only install which includes keying it. If you need pictures of what they show let me know.Image

I have the repair manual and it does not have anything on the bags at all. Surely someone has had to do this?

G'day Vet57,

Have a look on google (KTM pannier lock repair) - there appears to be a heap of U-tube vidiots and one of them might give you an answer.......

Good idea, saw a couple for adventure bikes, but I have not found anything yet for the GT.

Thx, I have the same manual and you are correct it does not show how to take the tumbler out. RDKLL's youtube vid shows a BMW tumbler, but again does not show how to pull it out.

Chatted with my dealers service guy and his opinion is that you might have to wreck the bag to get the tumbler out. The new bags come with new tumblers to key to your bike and manual shows how to do this. Manual does not show how to get tumblers out, which kind of backs up service guys opinion.

Geeze with the cost of these cases (mine were $1300Aus - our GT's don't come standard with cases) I'd consider the option of the SW Motec rack and some Givi cases (they have keyless access hatches so they don't need to be opened fully while on tour)......but they won't look as slim or be as light as the KTM-Shad oem kit. A passenger will appreciate the extra capacity too.....if needed.. ;)

The new cases will just need to be reset to your existing key code (mine came c/w tumblers and the workshop set the tumblers for me).
