Aux lights

Post by jfwaller » Sat Jun 24, 2017 6:18 am

Has anyone added LED auxiliary lights to their GT? I see kits for other KTMs, but wondered about mounts and harnesses specific to the GT. I had Denalis on my Tiger 1050 (which had notoriously shitty OEM headlights), and they were a worthwhile (if overpriced) addition. A good deal of my commuting is at night, so lights are important.

Ive ridden my GT a few times at night JF, and the head light is the very best I've ever come across.
2016 1290GT-remus link and muffler, 2010 Black 1200 Multistrada full Termi system with mapping, 2005 SMR 640, full Titanium system, Mikuni flatside racing carb, 2 sets of wheels, 18 litre tank, and a nice soft seat.

Dave, the hi-beam is pretty good, but the low is not too bright, and the spread could be better. The cornering LEDs are a nice feature, but when they're not on, the periphery is not well lit. Adding a set of driving lights provides a stunning improvement in your ability to see what's on the edges (and off) of the road, which, in our part of the world, is often deer or other animals.

I'm been trying to figure out a good set up for my Sdr. It's not easy. I don't want to block then radiator so that leaves only the fork tops between the handle bars and blinkers. That's a small space so most lights won't fit. Or they are too small to actually do anything. Also I want them on with hi beams so I'll need a relay off my high beem wire. I think I have all the pieces put together just need to call rigid Monday and see what harness I need. I will post my results.

I have the Darla's with the fork mounts. I commute in the SF bay area everyday. People MOVE for these lights, especially with the yellow filters on. Pretty pricey but you get what you pay for. You have a GT so you obviously already understand this. High quality stuff, linked to the high beams and horn. Take a ride up to Rancho Cordova and they will even install them for you but easy enough for diy. Good luck.

Yammer, I had Denalis on my Tiger 1050 (which had totally shit oem lights, btw), and they were problematic but good when they worked. A friend had clearwater on his Buell, never had problems. It might be worth a run up to Sacto when I have the time... and $$. Thanks for the tip.

Yes, mine is a GT. Only problem I have had in 12k miles is one of the filters fell off during a blast up to the lake. I was in the Rancho area and stopped by, told them about it and they handed me another pair....no charge! I highly recommend these lights. You will not be disappointed. The price reflects the quality, performance and customer service.

They also make a module, I believe it's called the "Betsy" that swaps power to the turn signals to make them running lights. Normally on at all times and flash for the turn signals. Another great mod to help you be seen in traffic.
