not another hand Guards :) lol

Post by Tancakar » Sat Apr 15, 2017 8:41 pm

I have been searching for Hand Guards but nice ones :) i have come a cross so many for GT, also i see acerbis X-Tarmac. but i don't think they will be too steady.

So seen two of these hand guards which i share the pictures.

Sw-motech Kobra

BarkBusters Carbon

they are a little pricey but i can say they are the best looking and stronger then the others.

Any of you have these?

And also i am going to combine this with mirrors :)

this is the picture

And i think i am going with Carbon one's :)

Now boys...... one point to remember about the handguards with two mounting points is that the Gt does not have handlebar mounted instruments like the SD-R in the photo's........that's where i was hung up on and no one could supply a photo with guards installed on a GT.....I went with the Acerbis Dual Roads and I'm very happy with them ( those Carbon Fibre style ones are beautiful though).......

Just try to check the guards will clear the screen/dash at full L/R lock..... ;)

interesting as i see these on Ktm 1190,1290 adventures and also on ktm superdukes but not gt yet, how ever gt is very small population , they didnt sell as much as SDR so it might be that too.

Cheers mate, that's what I was prattling on about......note the SD-R has its instruments attached to the handlebars.......I had to do a "pretend install using measurements supplied by BarkBuster (same as SW Motech product) and I estimated the hand rails would contact the menu screen on the left side of the GT dash, and possibly the right side as well.....they are quite large......also, a local bike shop has fitted many of these to many bikes but when he looked at my GT he said straight away.....no can't be done, won't fit, not the same as SD-R.......so be careful and demand a photo of a GT with the guards you want installed before spending $$.

Be warned - SDR and GT are not the same.....get photo's either from the guard suppliers or from forum members. It makes no difference that the handle bars might be the same.....the instruments are not attached to the handle bars like on the SDR...... I haven't looked, but the 1190 and 1290SA are not SDGT's and are most likely very different critters. Not all KTM's are the same - that also applies to any 'problems' earlier versions had - they are not 1290GT's which will have benefited from the development experience being last to reach market (thought the next wave has begun with the 1290SA-Sport which also benefits from all prior models development data).

As mentioned before, a local fitter of many handguards took one look at the Gt (because everybody was 'telling' me the Bark busters are listed for the GT and SDR) and said straight away...'no they won't fit that bike'. (I already knew this......but what would I know.....I just own a GT.. ).

If anyone has fitted the above BarkBuster (=SWMotech) trail bike guards then post-em up asap :!:

The Acerbis guards I have are held on only at the bar-end mounting point, yet are stable and functional and look shit hot......no need to have huge ugly trail bike guards like the 1190 on a sexy sporty 1290Gt  (unless you ride in blizzards and sleet  )
