Acerbis Handguards

Post by Aussie Dave » Mon Mar 27, 2017 8:51 am

G'day from Aus.. :)

Picked up my beautiful Acerbis 'Dual Road' handguards this afternoon and will fit soon. They have clearance to the dash and the fairing because they are nice and minimal in shape and length. I took a bit of a gamble as I had only read on this forum of one GT owner fitting them......but that gamble paid off.....they are beautifully made and look fabulous..... :D

Now, if this photo works......

There goes $200Aus but I'm very happy with the quality and the design......err, the oil and filter is for the 5000km change I want to do prior to my first trip away in May (I know..the manual says blah, but I'm running semi syn 15w50 and I wanna change it at 5000k, and again at 10,000k......then I'll go full syn at the 15,000km official service ;) )......so far I have 1937km (1200miles) on it. It feels run in now and I clocked 22k/Ltr fuel cons on the motorway - hasn't used a drop of oil either......... 8-)....and it just loves a bit of welly :D

Oh, must add, the Angel GT's didn't slip on the damp roads, the KTM tech engineered into this bike is brilliant.......I wasn't dawdling, but I also wasn't gonna bin it on it's first proper 400km day-ride.....

Ps prob just as well I dropped the cold pressures to 33f 35r......they heat up to 36f 38r, but they might even like to run at 32f 34r........solo unloaded of course...in Aussie climate.....no snow....eh! ;)

Cheers all...

Bugger.....it rotated.....anyway, ewe can see nothing touches and they look slick.... :)......screen in high position & RHS is same = all good. Yet to road test, but that ex-cyclone "Debbie" has turned into a rain system.......good grief, it's drought or flood...... :!:

G'day D-NZ......yes, I got out for a ride in the "mountains" ( ....I know, U call them hills if they don't get snow on top) on Sunday......it has at last turned cool......so I was in mesh summer jacket and light thin gloves and the temps (according to my nice GT dash) were around 20C.....cool enough to notice the Acerbis guards deflect airflow well enough to give some protection.....though a thorough cold all weather test is coming in 1st week of may when I ride up to the 950m 'tablelands' and south to the Oxley Hwy......but I think these will do the job.

They are so good looking....and I think they have a range of tints for the 'see' through aero guards - I wanted silver, and it matches the fuel tank silver-grey.....but I was hoping to match the bright silver fairing struts....anyway, they are super easy to fit (I also didn't use any of the bar end spacers provided), however you do loose the OEM bar weights (which are substantial) - though there is no increase in vibes at riding revs....maybe a few more at under 4k rpms.....oh, the RHS touches the brake lever mount so I just stuck some adhesive door seal foam tape on to make sure there were no rattle noises and the LHS clears the clutch assy completely........I love them.....they look beautiful.....not huge ugly trailbike tree bashers....but lovely sports bike hand guards..... :D

So at this stage I can only say I think they work well enough......I need some proper brutal cold air to prove that as fact.....but I have some serious gloves that can handle snowzone temps so with the heat turned on I'll be cosy and dry. ;) Here's a not so wonderful photo....but the angle is good to zoom in on the side profile of the Acerb's

Cheers guys, i'll behave.....promise.....

Hey those French handguards work pretty good......but I was only exposed to 15C temps on the weekend. The real test will be the 3000k week long ride in early May.......no doubt NSW will chuck some proper chilly temps at us as we get closer to our mid winter temps ( yeah I know, it ain't really cold unless the grass has turned white.....).

Perhaps the Acerbis Dual Road's might not work for really harsh blizzard conditions, but they give adequate deflection ( I was in summer Rev-it gloves, hot grip off) and could just feel some wind on the knuckle armour - have since slightly adjusted the guards up a tiny fraction as I had positioned them using the levers for guides, but I thought on the weekender ride that they might just be a few mm low.......close enough but you know, gotta get it perfect.....

Ha - just remembered - can't have everything perfect - the 'Fuel Range' is prone to extreme optimism...nearly made me walk on one stretch.....but I was on my game.....and a servo popped up just as I realised I was not going to make the next big town....... .

I have read a few comments about crippling seats on the GT......I gotta say it's one of the most comfortble riding positions I have ever had.....that includes the Capo1200......but this GT does fit my body very very well and so nothing gets sore. :D and the WP dynamic suspension has become very very nice on comfort/street with the spring on 1+luggage :D..........have yet to give the sport map a go.....I'll get there... ;) .

MATE, we've just cleared another extra long hot summer that just happened to be one of the most humid periods of 30-37C Aussie summers ever........I only just survived by doing lots of early AM breakfast rides (usually <200kms) getting home by morning tea and stripping off fast........ 20C is just fantastic

You'll laugh when I tell you Brisbane gets about 3 days of proper winter temps of approx 5C.......we get it really easy here....... :D .......I can't imagine how I'd handle not being able to ride a bike for 3-4 months...

Anyway, 3,500kms and counting...... :D .......I do wish the dash menu had bigger sharper characters though (ok so I must remember to put my glasses on)....they are a bit hard to read at a glance.....that new TFT screen on the 1290SA-S looks like the answer, unfortunately it can't be retro fitted to our GT's as it is also the ECU for the new models.... :(...but what the heck.....50hp more and 30kg less than my prev bike......yahooo

Acerbis hand guards fitted, my little mirror fitted on it, so a plus, and some bar risers from Hong Kong.
