Rottweiler Conversion Leaking Oil?? Oil Catch Solution

Post by GaryCulb » Fri Jun 28, 2019 6:48 pm

Many months ago I noticed what appeared to be some oil leaking over my rear cylinder of my 2017 KTM SDGT. It had occurred since I had done the Rottweiler stage 3 conversion. Did some searching & found this video which concerned me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... OXNW1pyzPU . So, I called Rottweiler. They said 95% of the time this was due to overfilling the bikes oil. Rottweiler suggested I move the crank case breather over my chain. Then, went to the track & got turned away BECAUSE my Rottweiler conversion had the crank case breather dangling over the bikes chain. Inspector Guy said it might put oil on their track & suggested I get a oil catch. The place primarily does Go Carts & Cars. Rottweiler presently does not make an oil catch for the KTM SDGT. So, after taking with Will at Rottweiler I decided to make my own Oil Catch. I have attached some photo’s.

Got the oil catch here: https://www.bmikarts.com/Aluminum-Catch ... _1894.html . Solid product made of aluminum with a good paint job.

Went my local hardware store & got the rest. The had some great pipe clamps in electrical & we pieced the fittings from what they had in stock. Got the air breather here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076J ... UTF8&psc=1

Came out OK. Just wanted you guys to know- YES, an oil catch for the KTM SDGT can be done. Yeh, probably need to get some better fittings and a smaller air breather. Yes, that is the bikes original SAS tubing.

Posting here because the other KTM Forum appears to be infested by what many would call a Troll. Tired of reading the c—p.

Best,

Doc :D :D

Cheers GC..... ;) ...... I know what you're referring to - he has been chastened by moderators and a number of his posts have been deleted. I'm glad I was out riding and hadn't had a chance to read those posts..... it's very disturbing to be the focus of a cyber bully ;) .

Much calmer here.
