It’s just the the key cover that’s changed, the 2019 is keyless and you just lift the flap forward and it opens, but they both still open towards the seat.

Ah - I saw some new levers added to the 2019 GT in the pics... does this mean they are the same as a 2018 R? I couldnt find any reference and was not keen to buy a set and then find they wouldn't fit.!

Yes Davo, they have a tinted screen for the 2019 model and I have one on backorder. It will never be quieter than the SDR where the wind just goes around your helmet and the helmet is designed in a wind tunnel without turbulence. Well that’s my take on it anyway Image

If you are talking about the screen then it’s an option so through your dealer.

G'day steveGnome,

Have a look on the KTM website if you haven't already visited the dealership. The tinted screen for the 2016-2018 model was $240Au and they send them from the Perth WA warehouse. I haven't had a look at the KTM spares site yet....... there might be lots of goodies available...... but they might be overpriced too..... maybe also google search for 2019 1290SDGT accessories etc and see if there are any better/different options available.

;)

The screens are different 18 vs 19 model so make sure you are getting the right screen..... the web sites don't appear to have 19 model screens available yet, so it will be only KTM tinted oem for now until the accessory crowd get into gear (the mounting holes and shape are very different to the 16-18 model screens).

O2 lambda removal dongles

Post by Aussie Dave » Mon Apr 22, 2019 12:09 am

Cheers all,

Finally had time to install my O2 fuel dongles while the tank was very low in fuel...... :)

I rerouted the rear connector so that if anything went wrong on the test ride (like it did with the UK sourced purge valve resistor dongle ;) ) I could easily reattach the lambda probes and go oem again.

All went well on the test ride and I recorded a 30C drop in exhaust header temp after a 20km warm up ride.

The GT is smoother on the throttle at town/traffic speeds (40-60kph) but I will keep the 40t rear sprox on as it allows 6th to be used on our 100-110kph highways.

So, smoother riding and cooler exhaust temps for the under 5k rpm...... :D ... even though the GT ran pretty smooth after 5-7000kms, it runs much cooler and smoother now with the 'closed loop' Euro4 lean air fuel ratio system disabled..... view the Rottweiler video for an excellent explanation.

I bought my kit from SmartMoto in Greece as they charged a similar price to Rottweiler ($30Euro) but posted to Aus for $9Au.... all up cost to my door was $68Au vs $150Au from the USA.

The fuel dongles tested in spec at 330k ohm and 984k ohm (spec was 330k & 1000k ohm +/- 2%) and the bungs for the headers were included instead of extra cost. :D

For Canister Removal Info

Post by Aussie Dave » Mon Apr 22, 2019 12:26 am

Hi all,

When (not if) you remove your charcoal canister to make more space under the rear seat for tyre repair kit and Snapjack SS prop stands etc etc....... keep in mind you DO NOT need to buy a dongle to replace the purge valve.

Save the $50Au and simply leave the oem purge valve connected to the wiring loom. Just detach the hosing and plug the vacuum lines to the throttle bodies (these will be the take off points for future fluid manometer connection for balancing the TB's). The purge valve is then simply a resistor and requires no loop hose or caps.

I reused the longer vacuum hose to replace the shorter fuel vapor hose so I could run the breather line down to the clutch slave area with the existing plugged drain hose.......

Bike happy, I'm happy, wasted $50 learning the above...... but that's life........ you can save $ now ;)

You know my 2017 didn't come with a canister, Dave?

I think it depends on whether the particular bike you get was destined for the EU or American market.

Cheers Knackers,

Take a bit of care putting them on - get used to the little arms under the hooking lugs..... they need to strike the 'slot' neatly.

Mine work great, but I don't overload them and I also make sure they are packed to the shape of the lid's.

i've now got the quick release racks on so I can run my 40Ltr Givi cases..... but haven't graduated to a ride long enough to need that big a load of gear......

My GT felt lovely last Monday..... suspension nicely worked in - soft in street damping no load. Weather nice for riding with proper gear...... I'm getting most of my 6th sense back - but i have noticed i'm not picking up all the info i used to so I still need more kms to get back to the full radar brain I used to have....... .

Nice jacket love the colours but I think it will be difficult to keep it that nice with dead flies😂😂
Think you need to go darker on the headlamp covers to get the look right.

To go any darker you would lose the benefit of the LED lights, I’m happy with the result but I do know what you mean but sometimes you have to for function over looks Image dead flies will clean off this just as it does off this ImageImage

I clean my own jackets and she cleans hers. lol
Not that hard to do. I would rather not have any covers on the headlights as I like the look without them but I have already copped a mark or two and I may yet just place a clear contact type material over them.

Yeah but you have to hide that hideous headlight anyway
It’s always about whatever floats your boat
