What have you added to your gt today?

Post by pk1 » Fri Jan 11, 2019 1:46 pm

Thought id start a new post so we can see mods done to the gt.. So today i added some sw motech Kobra handguards. Thought they looked better than the ones on the new 2019 model.
You can get indicator lenses for them but my local dealer doesnt think they would work on the gt? ImageImageImageImage

Cheers mate👍 I think they are the best suited for the gt. I would love to put the blinkers in them but the dealer doesn’t think it’s possible?
Think I’ll ask on here if anybody has added additional indicators.

Finished fitting the catalog tail tidy this morning (bad light and mozzies ended last nights session).

Straightforward installation, but have some concerns about semi-exposed plug-in connectors - they're going to cop more road grit and moisture than when they were in the orginal covered tail unit:

We'll see. Zip-tied number plate will fail before then anyway.

Re: What have I removed from my GT today......

Post by Aussie Dave » Tue Mar 05, 2019 10:31 am

 ..... at last, decided the charcoal canister was going...... was in garage doing the Massimo 'loop' to get it done while waiting for my 'error eliminator dongle' and just starting to struggle re-fitting this under the tank (which i didn't want to remove)....
Was installing the 'Massimo' connection when my canister dongle arrived..... .jpg
Was installing the 'Massimo' connection when my canister dongle arrived..... .jpg (58.02 KiB) Viewed 1124 times
When the postman pulled up........ great timing! My bulky loop hose wasn't going to fit back under the tank without a struggle.... I realized later I could have just re-used the two short purge valve hoses with one white hose connector for a much less bulky 'loop'.

So, canister removed...... enough room to fit a carton now...... eerrrr well, my Snap Jack SS fits easily with room to spare for the rest of my tubeless puncture kit and gas cylinders..... hell, maybe even fit my compact hand pump if i really try......

I re-routed the fuel overflow breather tube down beside the rear footpeg hanger so if it ever overflows or emits any vapour, it will drip to ground or vent to air instead of onto my SnapJack & tools  .

Errr, you noticed missing footpeg  .... that's what you do to qualify for 'Solo' registration in QLD and save $160 off the annual renewal fee - if you have no need for a passenger's CTP insurance.

Anyway, bulky bits out...... now to move stuff from my top case down under the rear seat plate..... :D
Canister & Purge valve out.jpg
Canister & Purge valve out.jpg (41.23 KiB) Viewed 1124 times
PS I plugged the vacuum hoses from the throttle bodies - I intended to use the purge tubing and connectors to extend them like the Rotty stage 3 kit..... for easy synchro without pulling the tank.. 8-) but they were long enough anyway.

Cheers all...... the UK error eliminator dongle seller was Wheelz Connectors (email wheelzconnectors@virginmedia.com) though i went via flea-bay.... the dongle is neat and easy and postage took 20Feb-5Mar, cost $30au + $9mail (in a nice little box too!).

If you take the tank off, you can do the can removal without the dongle - if the purge valve is just a vacuum powered 'valve' then it won't need the bulky hose loop either, just a plug on both ends to keep crud out - but I'm not certain of this, and I had already bought the dongle.

Also, I put a couple of washers under the rear seat latch to compensate for the bracket attached to the carbon canister.... makes the seat (or SW Motech plate I bought for solo rego conversion) fit like oem. No error codes, not hard to do, amazing how I get motivated once my standard 2yr warranty has expired

I'm keen to test my mods (K&N airfilter, ESE, Carbon Can removal & vacuum hose plug) ..... feelin pretty good lately, so I figure I've 'done my time' recovering and it's finally time to ride :D

What have you added to your gt today?

Post by knackers » Thu Mar 07, 2019 5:50 am

Well I have picked up my new2019 1290 GT last week and have just taken all I can off my 2015 SDR that would fit and was surprised to find that 85% of the gear fits. Other than the Corbin seat, fuel filler carbon cover, carbon side pods that cover the overflow bottle etc. the carbon side wings, Evotech headlight cover, carbon exhaust shield and Ti sub frame bolts.

Yet to add the Attack Performance rear sets, BST carbon wheels and Braketech rotors.

Thanks for the pics of the ‘19. Could you show pics of the storage compartments they added? I have yet to see what they look like and how much they can hold. On my FJR I keep my wallet and cell phone in the cubby.

Here are the small compartments on the 19 model and the one on the left is where you can charge your phone and the foam protects the screen and holds it firm.

Cheers all, it's neat the way they fold in under the bodywork so they can't fly open while riding.

Not sure they are big enough for jjsc6's wallet though ;) .

Thanks. I wonder if any of the good stuff can be retrofitted to earlier year bikes. In spite of what Dave thinks about the size of my wallet, I spent a lot of money on fast cars, boats and motorcycles. The rest I just pissed away. My wallet will fit fine

Do they do a tinted screen for the 19 yet?........ there might be some aftermarket ones coming if the KTM shape isn't suited for your height....... keep an eye on Puig/V stream etc and I reckon you'll have to fit one of pk1's tank filler cap sticker design's...... that one's so classy...... 8-)

Yes Davo, they have a tinted screen for the 2019 model and I have one on backorder. It will never be quieter than the SDR where the wind just goes around your helmet and the helmet is designed in a wind tunnel without turbulence. Well that’s my take on it anyway Image
