Re: Exhaust valve dongle
The replacement ESE has arrived and been fitted, 150K test ride and all works perfectly. It also came with 2 O2 sensor removal plugs, but I had already fitted these, Rottweiler supplied these as they help compensate for the low down leanness. YAY.

My new ESE & link pipe arrived a few days ago but haven't put them on yet. Good to hear it's working properly

You will need the SAS removal kit Des.

It's exclusive to HealTech, no one else makes it
The ESE-KT1 is available for order now from our distributors.

Re: Exhaust valve dongle
I ordered an exhaust servo eliminator from Healtech through my local retailer (Bayside Performance), installed it and it also threw fault codes; MTC, TC, Engine light and limited my rpm to 6000. My bike also 'died' a few times on a 107 km ride and then sprung back to life before leaving me stranded but still in limp mode. I contacted Healtech directly and they responded saying that their dongles needed a firmware update. Hmm. Not impressed and when I receive a replacement, I intend to leave the exhaust valve servo motor on the bike and try the new dongle. I am not confident of their part at this point in time.

Re: Exhaust valve dongle
Understand your frustration - Healtech have gotten this sorted and are in the process of replacing all the 'MK1' versions of the dongle. Apparently the GT electronics/diagnostics system is the most complex (you could maybe say OTT in some respects) that Healtech have worked on to date (bare in mind the huge range of bikes they have been producing electronic gizmos for for years).
This has been an unfortunate incident for some early adopters of the ESE (apparently bikes with the O2 sensors removed had no issues) both for customers and Healtech....they do otherwise have a longstanding excellent reputation
I did as you mentioned, test rides with the ESE fitted but without removing the servo motor unit....but my exhaust servo motor now resides in a box on a shelf in my garage

I just purchased the little cam provided by Rottweiler , works great in fooling the Ecu ,no error codes.

Yes i used one (cam) on mine for 22,000Kms with no problem. And Andy i had my O2 sensors removed, and the first batch of ESE failed on my bike causing multiple faults, MK 2 ESE works perfectly.

Re: Exhaust valve dongle
OK, fallow me here. Considering removing the catalytic converter and replacing with the Bodis Pipe ( http://www.bodis-exhaust.com/details.ph ... 76&lang=en). Done the PowerCell performance SAS removal (https://www.powercellperformance.com/sh ... ture-1190/ ) but, still use the oxygen sensors. Would also like to get rid of the exhaust servo by adding the HealTech ES eliminator (https://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/ese/). Have questions:
- Will I get error codes & bike go lump?
- Will I need to re-map the ECU?? If so where do I get the new ECU map???
- Does the KTM SD GT become allot louder????
- Does the bike loose power by making this conversion?????
Best,
Doc

Re: Exhaust valve dongle
There's guys round these parts that will be able to give better / more knowledgeable answers than me.
First tip.....spend some time searching the forum, pretty much everything you ask has been covered one way or another
ESE will prevent errors relating to the exhaust valve not working / not being present (just to be safe, before removing anything, just connect the ESE and do a few miles - the bike may not run too well with the exhaust valve in place but not operational
)
Your SAS removal kit should have included a 'dongle' to connect to the SAS pump or valve or whatever it is, wiring connector on the bike....so should be no errors there
Remap fuelling....highly advisable. Rottweiler (other brands are available lol) do 'fuelling' dongles that simply richen the fuel mixture across the board. How good these are I have no idea but I do know that they are a poor substitute for and will not be anywhere near as good as an actual remap. There's all sorts of 'piggy back' devices like Power Commander but depending on your needs, what you want from the bike, can't beat a visit to a tuning specialist.
Fuelling dongles will suffice maybe as a temp measure anyway?
Loss of power....seen talk of loosing some low/mid-range grunt with some decats. From what I've read the Bodis is one of the better decat. Simple logic is that making a fairly major hardware change such as a decat will require software changes as per previous para.
DaveNZ.....glad to hear Healtech got you sorted.

Re: Exhaust valve dongle
AndyW
Well, I searched this Forum. Not all the answers to my questions were available like you stated/ suggested??
So, I searched this forum again, http://www.ktmforums.com/forums/super-duke/, Facebook sites for the KTM SDGT, U-Tube & EuroSport of Asheville, NC to get my questions answered.
For those that are considering just removing the cat box on the KTM SDGT and possibly adding the ESE from HealTech & the Bodis cat removal pipe here are the answers to my questions:
- Will I get error codes & bike go lump? Not if you purchase the https://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/ese/; ESE-KT2; You can get it from: http://shop.bluemonkeymotorsports.com/E ... uickcart=1 ; (877) 234-5150; Ask for the New model ESE-KT2 for the KTM SDGT
- Will I need to re-map the ECU?? No, not with just the Bodis cat removal pipe
- Does the KTM SD GT become allot louder???? Yes, repeated installers note the exhaust is much louder at idle and gets louder the higher the RPM's.
- Does the bike loose power by making this conversion????? Some say yes, most say no & no one I could find has a Dyno of the ESE HealTech & Bodis cat removal pipe conversion.
The KTM Dealer recommended:
Arrow racing header with ceramic coating too reduce heat & 18mm O2 bungs- $820, HealTech ESE-KT2- $59, Dynojet AutoTune Dual wide band- $400, Power commander V $380 & EZ Power Relay kit $20; Total $1,679 excluding Labor.
Best,
Doc

Re: Exhaust valve dongle
Hi Doc, you took your time lol
It is so difficult when for the most part all you have is anecdotal feedback / info / advice, with differing opinions and no one solution fits all anyway (different mods to bikes, different expectations/wants [needs] by owners, different budgets etc).
Couple more opinions / comments from my non expert point of view...
"Will I get error codes & bike go lump" (limp?.....limp mode?)
...nothing but good feedback on the Healtech ESE now that those initial teething problems have been sorted. A more elegant fix enabling the exhaust valve motor to be removed altogether.
"Will I need to re-map the ECU?? No"
...disagree, my research led me to the firm belief that some means of adjusting the fuelling is required if the CAT is removed...that may be as as simple/crude as fuelling dongles or IAT sensor dongle.
"Does the KTM SD GT become allot louder???? Yes"
...to varying degrees dependent on the choice of decat pipe and of course what end can/silencer is used.
"Does the bike loose power by making this conversion?????"
Commonest criticism I found with decat pipes was loss of lower to mid-range torque dependent on choice of decat pipe. The Bodis appeared to fair better that most/all others with perhaps the exception of the Arrow you have had recommended....if I recall correctly their decat pipe incorporates a collector mid-box like the KTM Akrapovic full system for the SDR?
Dynojet Autotune / PC (any 'piggy-back device) vs actual remap of the bikes ECU on a dyno......another can of worms! Lol
Putting your bike in the hands of an 'expert', especially someone with experience of these bikes (and the right reputation!) and going with their advice/recommendations should be a safe bet.
Not so easy choices for the DIYer.
Looking forward to your thoughts after the work has been done.....and pics!

Re: Exhaust valve dongle
AndyW,
I agree. When I have made changes like de-cating eventually, it required an ECU change. Unfortunately, according to my KTM Dealer that is not avaliable for the KTM SDGT without an aftermarket edition. Not sure I am going to drop another $2K into this bike. Best,
Doc

Re: Exhaust valve dongle
I like reading these threads, although I have A SDR, can get some good info.
But I just had to say, it's lose not loose.
Eg.
Will the bike lose power..... I don't think loose as in not tight is correct
.
I do apologise, I read many posts on different forums and just ticks away in my head each time I read "loose"

Re: Exhaust valve dongle
AndyW,
I own a 2017 KTM Super Duke GT and spent this past winter doing extensive modifications to my bike so I may be able to answer some of your specific questions. First, I used a lot of Rottweiler's parts and a Remus link pipe https://www.remus.eu/catalog/product/vi ... ategory/5/ and an Akropovic muffler (I retained the internal baffle). The data that Remus have on hand show that there is no loss of horsepower or torque when shedding the cat converter and the exhaust valve servo. I am using the following parts from Rottweiler Performance: PCV (Chris from Rottweiler provided me with a plug and play program since the Akropovic program is not compatible with the GT); an Autoignition module, fuel dongles, SAS delete, canister delete, Rottweiler's intake air box, and the Healtech Exhaust Servo dongle. I had problems with the first Healtech dongle and it has since been replaced by the distributor in the US and it works just fine. Performance? Outstanding. No loss of mid power torque, etc. The bike pulls like a train. Sound? The bike is definitely louder with the Remus link pipe and Akro exhaust but not obnoxiously so. No doubt it is breathing better with a less restrictive air box as well and, let's face it, these engines are basically air pumps so less restriction implies more power. I have done a lot more mods to the bike but the above mods are what you have been focusing on in your discussion. For myself, I am pleased with my mods and am stopping right there. Good luck!

Re: Exhaust valve dongle
Thanks for that.....I think the crux of the matter is decent 'tuning' after decatting. There does seem to be a lot of anecdotal (seat of the pants) evidence that some decat pipes do have an adverse effect on power delivery/torque - but proper remapping/tuning will correct and deliver the full benefit of a less restrictive exhaust system.
It makes a lot of sense to match exhaust upgrades with a more free flowing intake system as well.....if the budget allows!
