Cleaning Dust Boots

Post by bigman32hockey » Fri Oct 27, 2017 4:27 pm

Anyone done this? I'd like to clean mibe before the bike goes up for the season. I looked at the manual but I can't quite tell what I am supposed to pry off. I don't want to scratch or damage the forks. A few pics would be awesome if people have them. Thanks.

A lot of people use a screwdriver but a wider thin plastic glazing bar or similar will do fine. Just work a little at a time going around the dust seal. I clean the area with contact cleaner and put a small amount of lube(tri-flow or something thin) on the fork to reduce stiction. Good luck

Yep, they take a bit to carefully pry them away from the fork, but once they begin to move they will pull down by hand. I spray some cleaner/lube into the boot and work it up and down......prob should use my fork seal cleaner tool  but this clears the gunk and I wipe the mess of the fork tube and push the boot back on by hand making sure it seats nicely on the inside. ;)
