Repair estimate is $8400+$1200 Supplemental

Post by RDKLL » Fri Apr 21, 2017 2:57 am

Well, I just spoke to the shop that will be fixing my '17 GT with 3500 miles and the estimate is $10K...I am hoping for a write-off...but i am not holding my breath. My state, Arizona, uses the Total Loss Formula- If cost of repairs and salvage value exceed actual cash value then it will be totaled.

Still hoping for a total, but I dont think it will happen

Oh, that's a sad site.
Do U get the option of buying it back if they write it off?

Well...
The shop has completed the estimate and appantly the saddle bags were not as expensive as I hoped they would be...new total $9400...So even though not confirmed by the ins co, i am pretty sure it will be repaired and not written off

Gawd, Rdkll-- so sorry about your bike and shoulder. I had my GT in at Apache for the fuel line recall and to replace a cracked coolant overflow bottle-- they happened to mention they had your bike in for evaluation and repair. I saw it and besides breaking my heart over your accident, I can;t believe the estimate is 9-10 grand for repair!!! It didn't look THAT damaged to me...

Best of luck to you for a speedy recovery and quick turnaround for your GT's repair!

PS: if they do write it off or you decide to part it out, I would be interested in your Power Part seats. Hope I'm not too much of a vulture here......

Sensation,
We will have to get together for a ride. Mike was telling me that the fuel tank was damaged and it was something like $2700. I was really surprised that the bags were only $800.
If they do total it, I have the oe seats to put back on...powerparts seats will go on the repaired/replaced GT.

You good sir are not a vulture.

I am sending you a pm...

Sorry to hear about the whole ordeal. I hope you're healing up ok. Sounds like you should at least end up with something that's as new though.

Just updated the title...one month out and its not done yet. I stopped by to check progress the other day and found more stuff and then the dealer found a bunch of stuff relating to the swing arm...I also noted some pretty serious scratches where the axle nut on clutch side front contact the ground...dealer said it was just the nut and I inquired how he could know it didnt effect the forks...anyway the insurance guy will be looking at it again

Yep, the more you find......might tip it over the write off line... ;)

Insurance repairs are always much higher than we might think because they have to replace everything with OEM new......whereas doing it ourselves we might just sand and paint etc the non serious bits.....so long as the frame is straight.... and the forks...... hope it works out and the bike feels good when back on the road ;)

We have very similar repairs. I was also quoted 8 hours and thought it was very low. Here is what I now know.

1. Shifter mechanism and rearset. After getting bike home I noticed the cam that actuates the shift shaft was bent and the small tab on the frame it bolts to was bent. Dealer missed it. I fixed it. Essentially frame damage should be a total right there. Look at yours.

2. Demand they put in time to remove and inspect the forks and triple crown. To make sure it is aligned correctly and not bent. . My dealer was adamant that forks were fine without checking them, total bs. The bars were bent and wheel crooked. ( I bought the pp crown so they had to disassemble it).

3. Left side impact with street knocked the piston out of my clutch master cylinder they missed it and give it back to me with a barely functioning clutch.

4. Laying on its side made the sight glass foggy. Get a oil and filter change.

5. If there are minor scratches on the lower frame by rearset don't let them say they will touch it up. It's powder coat and paint won't stick.

6. Inspect rear axle closely. The nut is damaged but if the outside thread on axle had any imperfections get a new one.

7. The shop is not going to help you willingly total out the bike. They want the repair and don't care about you or the bike being whole again. Why else are the hours so low? They eat the time and sell enough parts to not total. Don't let them miss anything. Invest the time to go over everything yourself. If they won't put in writing that a questionable item is factory perfect than demand new.

This process sucks and I feel for you. Mine was 3 months old. In the end it's 99.9% back to showroom condition. Runs and rides perfectly except for a very small scratch on frame by rear set. These are tough bikes but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think of it on its side every time I look at it.

Ps. If there not replacing the tank find a reason too. Any ding or scratch. Look under the air ducts in the front. They probably hit the tank and chipped it where they meet and the rectangular duct over laps the tank. Mine did.

Ask them how they know the frame is straight? Get some more hours out of them to measure and check frame and sub frame.

Your going to have to be a real dick if you want this thing gone. Even check your tires for abrasions and replace if there is one odd mark.

I'm going to keep goin on this.

Bike on its side. All fluids should be bled of air and checked for correct function.

Check runout on front discs. Front impact.

Make sure seat lock is activating freely and not hung up.

Check ends of bilinkers for scuff marks.

Check lower fork legs for any sign of fork oil

Thoroughly check wheels for damaged powder coat.

If the bike sits for months without a battery tender you want the battery load tested at pick up.

If the gauges come back with scratches on them it's time for new ones.

Record milage at time of drop off. ( big one).

Let them know this process will not end at pick up. You will be back for anything and everything forever until bike is perfect.
