Fuel Range on Dash

Post by Aussie Dave » Sun Apr 16, 2017 8:41 am

G'day all, sort of technical.....I've noticed my dash fuel range-o-meter readout is somewhat optimistic.

Todays ride ended with 325kms on the trip & 18.5k/Ltr av-cons on dash (so thats approx 17.5 Ltrs used with 2 bars to go on the gauge)......but the range was promising 120km  My calculations give about 80-90kms max (assuming 22 Ltrs usable).....so as I suspected there is approx a 40-50km shortfall (= walking zone) if you believe the range to empty readout....maybe it 're-calculates' suddenly, just before the fire goes out :?:

I've yet to be lucky enough to roll into a fuel station just as the reserve fuel 'warning' flashes or, as the last bar on the gauge begins to flash angrily.....but I have put 21.5Ltrs in at 390kms, for a real world average of 18.1k/Ltr....with side cases and top case on....and having to use 5th for the 100kph zones (even 4th for uphill sections)......that rear sprocket is coming....just need some kms to make sure the chain has stretched enough to squeeze the 40T on.... ;)

I wonder if the tank holds more than 22Ltrs.??.....anyway, I'm allergic to pushing a loaded bike so I'm assuming 22 max usable.

Anybody know for sure what their tank really holds when filled up till the fuel touches the filler neck nozzle thing ?

the tank may hold more than 23 litres Davey Crocket, my 1290R was said to hold 18 litres, i ran it dry and pushed it a 150 meters to a gas station and put in 18.8 litres.
