KTM 1290 Super Duke GT 2018 ???

Reason being that they just haven't sold enough of them. Lot of stock is still unsold and even with serious discounts from the factory (resulting the huge drop in aftermarket) it's hard to move them. Just his gut feeling, nothing official by any means.

I agree, even with led headlight and new screen it isn't going to draw the crowds in ! it's a small bike and many complain of this so has a very limited market plus there target sales are in the new adventure bikes at the mo.

Hi all,

Well that'll be a shame then.......just when guys are walking up to me and asking "ow's it go mate"......to which I reply "fekin AWSOME, mate" :D

The biggest killer is the price.....where most punters can get an MT10 Yamaha for $20kAus(?) or other seriously discounted adv bikes like V-strom1000 for $14kAus ride away.......

I was just thinking about this this morning as I lined up an SUV towing a trailer full of Mx bikes and another car in front.....fuk, it was green - I think - I was going so bloody quick after taking the SUV, the other car was just a blur as I hurtled past......YEHARRRRRRRR

Oh man do I love this bike.... :D

Dont buy bikes like these, (or Multistrada/GS/high end bikes) and expect to recover most of the money a year later. It aint going to happen. Just the same with cars.
Your getting a new and shiney bike with full warranty and breakdown cover. Price includes 20% vat contribution for the Goverment to piss up against the wall as well.
So come the time to trade in they can only offer what they are worth minus some profit for them, sadly it will be way less than the full purchase price.

If you want to recoup money you need classics, or modern classics like BMW HP2 etc. Otherwise its just part of the price of biking and running new bikes.
It is best to buy a 1 year motorcycle.

I can imagine KTM will phase it out. It's an amazing bike but I think it's too niche to be successfull, it's inbetween the interbetween bikes, if that makes any sense.

The biggest hit of bike ownwership is the initial moment you take the keys from the dealer, so the shorter time you own your bike, the more money you will loose. Unfortunately the next biggest depreciation factor is riding the damned thing, there are so many owners who just do a few hundered/thousand miles every year.

Hi all, I'm counting the days to the Sydney International Bike Extravaganza - I'll ask the KTM display about our GT's ......silly of them to give up on a great crossover sporty tourer (or is it a toury sporter??)..... but I guess those with the money are too fat to lean forward a little, so can only buy the BMW dream.....buggered if I can see why...a GSA12passed me recently and when he took off on a green traffic light he was up and down like a roller coaster as he yanked on the throttle (diff wind-up and soggy long travel suspension).....looked really silly.. ....and sounded awful to boot..

I've been feeling odd last couple of weeks so haven't been out on the road for 2 weekends  ....damned virus (I hope....).

But, for all those quitters who defected to the dark side after brief ownership of 2016Gt's..... I wish best of luck, but must add the DVT 1200 Multistrada is far from perfect.... I wouldn't buy one - based on a 150km ride I had on a mates DVT (7,000kms young)..... bloody thing felt awful..... top or tank heavy, weird on apex (possibly shitty Dunlops at fault), and crappy seat which really was rock hard and angled badly so that it pushed my ass forward to the tank all the time..... and the screen was great at causing noisy turbulence at any setting (just too far forward)......MS does have a centre stand, and the dash looks nice, but...... give me the 1290Gt any day over that pig. ;) Dugatti really fuk'd up on that model....and they want over $36k Aus for it.

The defunct 2013 MS1200 was way nicer (it had Ohlins and a lovely plush seat that was flat and fitted my ass perfectly). And good luck with the DVT sensors when they get oil in them (like Ferrari Vvt sensors..... ).

Horses for courses of course ;) ......but my 1290GT experience (stuck on 9550kms due tummy virus) has been awesome :D ....... and I can't wait to get back in the saddle.. ;)

Just because KTM is testing a new GT does not mean that it is a 2018 model. KTM has generally gone with a 3 year model cycle. It could be a 2019... but you never know.

Hi all, I guess everybody knew about the 2018 model except me  ......sad case I am  ......too engrossed in his 2017 GT to bother looking at any other bikes....... anyway, I thought it an idea to put the MCN spy shot up as there are lots of non KTM people reading before they buy.....

So (for anybody interested) the GT is in line for the recent updates to the Super Adv models and will hit the sales rooms sometime next year (2018) according to several on line sources..... ;)

I'm all for revisions.....that's progress.....Honda used to do 10yr model runs, but there were always plenty of revisions along the way (eg, the Blackbird was upgraded many times during its model life 1997-2007 with stuff like PGM-FI, taller screen, mufflers, more fuel capacity, even changes Honda didn't tell anyone about..... - bike still looked the same.... .)

I'd like the TFT transplanted to my GT......but I'm good with the headlight and screen as is.......then again, it might look irresistible in the 'flesh' ............. must google 'how to get rich quick'.... ;)
