Dash Reflections

Post by Aussie Dave » Sun Apr 09, 2017 12:10 pm

Might only be a problem peculiar to Aussie......after 11am the sun reflects badly off the flat dash screen......

But I have just added a spacer to tilt the whole dash up about 10 degrees ......yet to road test, but it was fekin painful on the weekend with our autumn sun reflecting badly into my eyes......a few minutes looking for a longer screw and a bit of hose and a spacer from my spare parts collection and 'voila' dash at a steeper angle.

Hope it works......I'll post a pic if it solves the Aussie-sun problem... ;)

I have since replaced the alloy spacer with a section of hose (vacuum/fuel) to retain max vibration damping. I also used a longer non standard screw in the top mount but reused the lower star head screws with some loctite and only re-tensioned them till the little alloy washer covers just stopped turning......hope it stops that blazing reflected glare we get in Aus after 11am......

This has bugged me as well, wish the dials had a non-reflective coating of some sort. I was going to look into this and see if anyone makes something I could overlay. A lot of companies make anti-glare products but they all seem to be pre-cut for mobile phones.

Hmmm, now that's an idea....... 8-)

I measured the adjustment i made and it is only 10Deg....might not be enough......I though it would be good to raise the dash as well as tilt it towards me, but that would require some clever engineering with brackets etc etc, so in the end I just tilted it and used a 10mm piece of rubber hose instead of that ex-Caponord tail piece alloy spacer in the photo.. ;) .

Roll on Easter.....time to play with Gt......err, and mow, and shop for groceries, do paper work, bath cats, clean bike, vacuum house/car......groannnn

Hey, got to watch round 2 of the Moto GP ....oh boy....this will be an interesting year....KTM in the points already....... :D

Yeah baby, that ought to do it......

Cost = $4.30 for 3 "make own brackets" pieces from local hardware super store...and using bits of my ex-Caponord stash and bolts and (you get the picture  )...oh, and 5 hrs of fiddling and getting it sorted......not road tested yet, but it looks promising as the reflections should be directed at the tank bag instead of my eyes...... ;)

Note to self.......stop fiddling with the bike and get a life....

Yessss......that works great! The AussieAutumnSun over the "yard-arm" cannot reflect into my eyes and the dash is in a nicer spot (slightly higher) for the usual rider stuff......and luckily my creation displays no vibes so the dash won't suffer - I was careful to make sure it was well insulated and mounted 'just right'.. :D
