Back seat stuck down?

Post by pk1 » Sat Apr 06, 2019 11:37 am

Well I was going to delete my sas system today but I can’t get my back seat up the lock feels like it’s not engaging properly and it won’t click up!
I do have too much crammed in under here but it’s been like that for a while now with no problems before.
Anybody else had this problem or know of a fix to get it unstuck?
I’ve tried having the mrs sit on the back in case it was too much pressure with stuff pushing up against the seat lock but still not working.🤬

Sorted thank god I had removed the charcoal canister, managed to put a screwdriver in the charcoal vent hole and push lock open! Result don’t know how I would have got it open if the canister was still in place!
The cable had popped out and wasn’t opening the lock.

Ha Ha, i did the same thing, and disconnected the seat the same way, i think from memory i put extra washers in place where the canister was removed and that stopped the seat from jamming

It might be a good time to study how we would get the seat off if the problem arises. There has to be a way.....right?

This is a must..... a couple of washers to replicate the thickness of the bracket that holds the canister and the seat just clicks into place like when new.

Cheers all.

Ps don't waste your money on the dongle...... all you need to do is unplug the hoses from the purge valve and plug the ones leading to the throttle bodies....... the purge valve can stay in place and acts merely as a resistor. My dongle (from the UK) fried it's (can't call it a resistor.... don't know what it was) component and caused error messages and warning lamps. I ended up using the longer hose from the purge valve to run the breather hose down with the oem overflow hose just in case the tank ever pushed enough fuel out to fill the thicker oem hose, so it can overflow fuel onto the ground instead of a hot zorst pipe. I'll just uncap the thicker hose every now and then and drain any fluid..... but the 'y' piece can act as an overflow secondary vent.

Dave i had already done the washers that was not the problem, it was the lock mechanism cable that sits in a little black groove had popped out, so when you turned the key the cable wasn’t held in place so just moved back and forward instaead of openenin the lock.
The dongle I got came with the Rottweiler kit and is functioning fine at the moment, it was £69 from p3tuning
On eBay kit includes 2 sas blanking plates thermo coated so will never fade, dongle for sas system, rubber blank and clamp for sas tube on bottom of the air box, dongle for canister valve removal, and plastic threaded screw to blank of hoses after y branch on throttle bodies.
I did however have to cut out the small lug on the dongle to make it fit?
Ps my thick vent hose was full of fuel when I removed it don’t get it that they plug it if it’s a vent hose?
Cheers Paul.
Pps i just ran the second tube from the top of the fuel tank to the same location as the other one and also the blanked of tube that comes from the bottom of the airbox that i have no idea what its purpose is?

I did my SAS removal and all the other bits and pieces associated with the canister removal and O2 sensor removal kit about 2 years back Paul, so I've forgotten most of what i did, but i did use some of the original piping to run and extra over flow drain from the tank, and to also extend the balancing tubes from the injectors up to the rear of the bike where the canister was. The bike has run great since. Ive been mainly riding my 790 now, so the GT has taken a back seat for now. Theres not much on the market for removing the CAT on the 790 in way of fuel tuning, (plenty of exhausts tho) much the same as the GT, where as theres plenty of set ups for the 1290R in fuel tuning.

Cheers JJ....... must have a look at my seat latch cable.....

Cheers Pk1..... i found a small quantity of stale fuel in the plugged fuel tank drain hose too. The system is designed to retain all fuel spills and vent to the canister in the tail...... I left the main hose in place but shifted the tail vent hose down along the bigger plugged drain hose so it might slowly vent any small overflows, but contain fuel spills in the plugged hose.

No fumes or drips (apart from myself)..... but I haven't filled my tank yet at a hot fuel up either.....

My dongle failure was probably due to poor quality or incorrect resistance...... I didn't test it before install, but it sure didn't last long...... just 1 ride!

So if your purge resistor ever fails in future.... just plug the oem purge valve back in..... no need to loop any hoses etc...... no need to buy another resistor. My KTM tech did say some months ago that he had an owner who fitted O2 dongles (Rottie's) and they caused trouble until they were removed, so I suspect some resistors might fail/be faulty normally out of a batch of resistors...... all you can do is test the Ohms and ride.

Ps the airbox drain tube would be to catch any oil fumes/leaks for Euro 4 emissions.

Can somebody please take a pictures with seats removed. I was thinking of making a hole where tape is and seeing if I can grab wire for seat release. Mine appears to be disconnected on lock side.
I want to see if there's anything on other side before I drill.

This happened to me once, i went in through the hole where id removed the charcoal canister, opened it with a screwdriver from memory. Ive long since sold the bike for a 2020 SDR. But pop in here from time to time. Not much traffic here nowadays.
