Gearbox

Post by ruffneck247 » Fri May 19, 2017 12:45 am

I have had a terminal failure in the gearbox that has left me with no 6th gear. It all started as a false neutral between 5th & 6th, then last week there was a loud clunk and no more 6th gear with bits rattling inside the gearbox. Bike delivered to Gear 4 for investigation, now KTM UK are replacing the entire engine.

Unfortunately, this is not the start of the problems with this bike, there are a whole ream of other faults, horn, triple clamp colour degradation, servo motor for exhaust, leaking panniers etc,

Bummer dude, that sucks, mean while mine has been perfect other than the minor hic up of the stand spur breaking. i guess this happens from time to time, i know of 3 gear boxes going in V4 Ts, and of quite a few V4 T engine blow ups. the 1290 is a very strong motor, you got un lucky with your gear box, bright side, you get a new motor.....But FUK. eh
2016 1290GT-remus link and muffler, 2010 Black 1200 Multistrada full Termi system with mapping, 2005 SMR 640, full Titanium system, Mikuni flatside racing carb, 2 sets of wheels, 18 litre tank, and a nice soft seat.

Agree with Nz guy.... ......that would shatter your experience.

Closest I came to something sort of similar was way back in 1993 when my brand new FZR1000 Genesis started to 'lose' gears and ended up stuck in 3rd. I could still take off in 3rd and ended up riding it down to the workshops - short story, the Yamaha mech took the clutch cover off and put a loose screw back into position and tightened it......cover back on.....good to go...... :D Phew...... Character building or what? ;)

Great news = new motor.......you get to start from new again......hope it behaves like mine and the other Dave's from now on. :)
