Incontinence?

Post by Eddie » Tue Apr 18, 2017 11:52 pm

I noticed that my GT has started leaving a little puddle of something clear and slippy when it's parked.

The radiator looks like this:
weepy.png
(Leak seems to be in the middle, and drains across to the left of the bike when on the sidestand.)

The expansion bottle is empty, and the level in the radiator is well below what I can see by shining a torch in the top.

Awwww, nuts.

It doesn't look obviously dinged ... anybody had a similar problem? Any chance of a warranty replacement?

If it has a split, and was a poorly made radiator, by all means its a warranty issue. BUT EDDIE why have you not got a protective guard over it, its always the first item i buy for my bikes.

I have to agree, those things are so easy to poke a hole in. In addition to the radiator guard, you might consider a fender extender. It looks like sh*t but helps to keep rocks and crap from puncturing and plugging the radiator.

RnG radiator guard one of my first purchases. Seen too many ride outs and trips spoiled by damaged radiators.
hope you get sorted.

I've already got a fender extender, had it waiting to go on when I first got the bike home.

I'm going to get KTM Assist to take it to the dealer and they can sort it out there, one way or another.

Not sure at the moment whether it's stone damage, but I'll buy a rad guard anyway … just as soon as I've closed this stable door. Anybody see which way my horse went?

R&G or evotech. What's the consensus on the best fitting one.

RnG was very easy to fit. Two bolts at lower makes it good and secure as well. Had rad guard on my S1r, sorry cant remember make, it was held in place with cable ties only. Not so good.

Collection by KTM Assist booked for Saturday morning. The dealers will look at it next week (while I'm out of the country anyway). Fingers crossed, I might be back on the road for the long weekend ...

And I've ordered one of those RRG guards. Whether the current problem is stone damage or not, I'll look pretty foolish if it gets smashed after it's fixed …

Update: the dealer couldn't find any sign of stone damage, so they replaced the radiator and submitted a warranty claim, and I got the bike back on Friday. They reckon the paint's too thin on the back of the radiator, we'll have to see what KTM say ...

And I fitted the radiator guard yesterday. The video showing how to lockwire it in place makes it look easy, but it's not quite so simple when it's attached to the bike. Couldn't get anything through the right-hand side at all, with the fan cowls and ducting in the way, so I hope I put enough everywhere else to secure it. 100 enthusiastic miles each way to Oliver's Mount and back, and it hasn't dropped off yet ...

Good to hear problem rectified.. :)

I've finally noticed my very small usage of coolant has stabilised and now the level is constant (only ever topped it up once an-E-way....but when they changed the odd looking lower coolant hose they must have let a few air pockets in... last weekends 700kms ride has fixed that!).
