MTC Failure < 450mi in...

Post by dirtyfreebooter » Sun Oct 02, 2016 11:39 pm

Trying to make it to break-in, 620mi (1000km)... Driving home on canyon road, behind a long line of cars trying to get the last look at the changing leaves... Bike just loses power (still on, engine running, just nothing when I twist the throttle). Info screen is saying MTC Failure. I pull over next turn out. I turn the bike off, turn it back on, no MTC Failure, but engine light is on.

Proceed to try and make it home. 10mi further, it happens again. I pull over. Shut the bike off. Turn it back on, MTC Failure is now showing 100% of the time. I drove home as calmly as possible, another 30mi.

I traded my Ducati Multistrada Pikes Peak in because it was constantly having issues. I really, really hope this KTM isn't the same. I really do love the bike... argh!!!

Yep. exhaust servo motor. Dealer called it exhaust motor something or the other. Said warranty repair. 7 to 10 days to get part. Also replacing my broken side stand with updated replacement part (under warranty).

I had the exact same scenario happen that you did. Once they replaced the exhaust valve servo motor the bike ran perfectly. Not quite sure why so many of these failed. Hoping the replacements last a lot longer!
