Helmet lock?

Post by Eddie » Sun Aug 07, 2016 6:28 pm

I finally got around to checking what was in the toolkit; bottle opener probably the most likely tool to get regular use ...

There's a cable for locking a helmet to the bike, but I can't see what it's meant to attach to ... am I missing something obvious? Or is it a generic KTM toolkit, and the GT doesn't have anywhere to attach that cable?

It hooks round the prongs that secure the rear of the pillion seat.

On the non-GT, sure; I can see in the owner's manual that the prongs would be small enough for the loops in the cable to fit over. But the GT has some chunky rubber bungs that the cable loops won't go anywhere near.

I'm betting it's a generic tool kit for all the Super Duke range.

No problem.

It's in for its first service tomorrow, so I'll ask the workshop ... should be good for a laugh, if nothing else.

... and the answer is: provide your own padlock, and lock it around a subframe tube or something. Brilliant.

I might see if I can rig up some hooks under the seat.

Not that I've really used a helmet lock that often in the past, to be honest; it rains too much in this country.

On the metal backing for the fuse holder there's a little spur that sticks out. You put the cable through the chin bar of your helmet slide both loops over the little spur and replace the seat.
If you ain't living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.

I had a look, and I can't see what you mean. Got a picture?

My bad. I have a 990SMT. Just realized I was in the wrong sub forum. I'll still post a pic if you want though. Might be similar *shrug*

Ha-ha! I wondered as much ... I had a look at my fuseholder just in case, but there's nothing like that around it.

I'm sure it would say in the owner's manual if there was somewhere to connect it.
