New Forum member, NEED HELP w/ what factory extras i need

Post by Pete Werner » Wed Mar 07, 2018 2:16 pm

Hi, my name is Pete Werner, from an area just west of Boise, Idaho. I'm 65 years young and have been riding since the 1960's on most styles of bikes, from dirt to cruiser to chopper to adventure and sport. I don't recall any motorcycle that I didnt appreciate for its own uniqueness and style. But then as a PE,(engineering background), everything seems exciting for all of the above mentioned reasons. However I love this newer electronics age that these high end bikes come with. My first real experience with this stuff when I purchased the brand new 2015 Yamaha R1. Now this bike has even more electronic controls, ya-hooooo!!!!!
My new KTM is the 2017 Super Duke GT, purchased yesterday. I have test ridden it for a test ride, now with 8.7 miles on it.

What has everyone purchased for extras, like the Slip Regulation?, or the HHC, what else is there? Like touring package or performance package?????
Any help will be appreciated!
Nice forum thus far and am learning my way around it now.
Thanks all,
Pete

Never mind, I bought all of the electronic extras that are offered. Now thinking I wasted money on a dongle, on other stuff, hill hold thing is nice because of my driveway being steep right up to the garage door. Does this not work in N, just in 1st gear? Not even sure of what the other things were that I said yes to, I will have to look at my paperwork and figure out what is there and how it works.
I am a little surprised that no one here responded to my request for help when I actually needed it. I'm coming from a forum for my 2015 Triumph Trophy SE and U couldn't ask a question without getting several knowledgable responses. I came to depend on the knowledge that was available there for many issues I might have had.
I'm hoping this is THE forum for the KTMSDGT.
Thanks for reading this,
Pete

Pete, welcome to the forum. Sorry for not posting up earlier, it has been quite a ride (no pun intended) for me and my Superduke. If I ever get my GT back, I am interested in the enhancements you have researched such as the slip management and HHC. I am also interested in setting up choices such as heated seat, even if there isn't one present. Bottom line, having a management tool for the SD would be great instead of having to take it to the dealer to do all these things. I have a GS911 WiFi for my BMW that I can reset service notices and other things on my BMW. I would like to be able to do that for the SD, too.

There is another forum(superduke.com) that seems to have some good technical data, as well. But what turns me off is that the moderator refers to everyone as Comrade and has a picture of Che Guevara as his avatar. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, but calling me Comrade is not endearing, at least not for me.

Pete Werner,

Welcome!! Lots of great data here on the KTM SDGT. Take a second and search around. Done most of the mods you can except changing the entire exhaust & adding a Power Commander ( http://www.ktmforums.com/forums/members ... e-iii.html ). The best modification I have made is changing out the rear sprocket to the 40T Steel ( search.php?keywords=40T+sprocket ). The air filter system on the KTM SDGT is well known to be a disaster so, went with the Power Cell Conversion ( https://www.powercellperformance.com/pr ... ture-1190/ ). There are many other things I have done. Will PM them with links. Enjoy this amazing machine. Best,

Doc :D :D

jfink,

Been checking into a 911 for KTM bikes. Have not ben able to find one. OEM product is $2,500 to $3,000 & connects to a KTM web site. If anyone finds someone please let me know.

Other KTM SDGT seats are Corbins ( http://corbin.com/ktm/ktmsd1290gt.shtml ) & Sargents ( http://www.sargentcycle.com/Seats-Acces ... Seats-KTM/ ). Took both OEM seats & had super foam replace the OEM foam product by Dianna’s Shop in NC ( http://diannasshop.com ). Highly Recommend!! Made an incredable difference. Best,

Sargent does not actually make a seat for the GT. They will take the existing seat in their “Custom” shop and build one for you. I spoke to them about several weeks ago and plan to send them mine for just that.

Hi Peter
65 yrs young and still riding... well done and on your new GT.
This site is great for Information as I spent some time looking at the threads before I joined.
We all have our own uneak stile from tail tidies to windshields that need wiper blades.

The latest gizmo out is the dongle to remove the servo motor.
Two kiwis (new zealanders) are sorting them out now. A product from Europe

Peter I'm getting a bit giddy (at last the snow and crap weather is retiring) apologies for the tardy response. I think the extras are best added to after trying the bike for a while... although my requirements list to the supplier were extensive

All the very best mate :-)
