1190 Adv Speedo correction
Guys how far out is your Speedo's compared to your GPS reading?
Before I go any further I would like to gauge some interest, would you guys be interested in correcting your speedo reading with a set of ABS rings like we did on the Duke 1290?

Re: 1190 Adv Speedo correction
Yes indeed. This damn speedo drives me crazy. Mine is a 2014 1190 Adventure S with the stock 19 inch front/17 inch rear wheel set. I will do a test with my GPS this afternoon and report the actual error.

Re: 1190 Adv Speedo correction
Gents,
I did a test drive today on level ground. The results in mph: indicated/gps, 80/74, 70/65, 60/56, 50/46.5, 40/37, 30/28, 20/19, 10/9.5. So, reading about 7 or 8% high at speeds above 30.
It's difficult to be precise since the gps reads to a tenth of a mph but varies by at least one mph up and down. And who knows how the speedo reads, as an example, 50 indicated for actual speeds of 50.0 to 50.9 or does it read 50 for 49.5 to 50.5? Splitting hairs, I know.
My bike is a USA model 2014, 1190S. The front and rear abs rings both have 48 slots. Wheels are 19/17 inch.

Re: 1190 Adv Speedo correction
There are no side affects with the ABS or traction control, there are no top speed problems with the ECU mapping which some bikes suffer from when playing with the Speedo.panhapp wrote:When the speedometer is corrected this way how does it affect the traction control ?

Re: 1190 Adv Speedo correction
So, just to make sure in my mind, we're not just talking about 1190 R here, we're talking about both versions?
If that's the case and they don't cost too much, why not? My only concern is that the error shown by Boeing's test is well within normally experienced car vectors, so I would just hope that there are no side effects caused by changing the rings, particularly during KTM servicing with their diagnostic terminal.
Also, has anyone tried using Tune ECU (KTM version) using the speedo correction function, to crack this nut?
My bike is a 2013 1190 Adventure - 19" front wheel.
PS If talking about both versions, won't that mean two versions of the ABS rings - 1 for the 21" front wheeled R and a 2nd for the 19" front wheel of the std. 1190 Adventure?

Re: 1190 Adv Speedo correction
I am looking at both versions, both the front & rear ABS rings unpainted for the 1290 cost Australian $105 + postage.
I have been working on my over reading Speedo since March 2014, todate I do not know of any other device or procedure that can correct the 1190 or 1290 over reading Speedo's. If you are happy with your Speedo the way it is that is fine, I am only making these rings for the guys that want their Speedo to read closer to the true speed.
As mentioned there are no side affects as we are changing both rings on the front & rear wheels by the same amount.
I still need someone to loan me their Adv here in Brisbane so I can do the testing & remove the rings so I can get them drawn in CAD so the laser cutters have a file to work from.

Re: 1190 Adv Speedo correction
2015 1190 Adventure R here, 21 & 18 wheels
Also interested in correcting rings, but first I need to check if my dealer could fix the thing or at least bring the speedo error down; I wont get my bike til next week.
He said he could fix it using the KTM tool but I suspect he cant so I asked him that, if that fails, at least change the settings so my bike thinks she has a 19 wheel; not sure about side effects on ABS and TC, and I dont expect this mod fix completely the speedo error, but just to bring the error down to the same level a standard 1190 has.
I suspect this cause both standard and R have the same OEM ABS rings, thus the R reads more optimistic than Std, but I'm just guessing and shooting in the dark...

Re: 1190 Adv Speedo correction
2015 1190 ADV R.
Speedo reads pretty much exactly 10% fast through entire range.
I'd be in for a corrective ABS ring.
