1190 Brake pads.

So....I pulled the trigger and got a 2014 1190 adventure std with 14000kms on it. :mrgreen:

Unfortunately it was in a town 1000kms away, but i had a friend who actually was going to be in the area when the deal was finalised, so he took a trailer down with him and brought the bike back for me.

They strapped the big bike down really hard, and one of the fork seals leaked a little on the way back. I checked it out and the little retainer spring ring thingy popped off the dust cover, I stuck that back on, cleaned up the fork and it's all good.....no more leaking...

....BUT.....The fork oil got onto the one calliper and into the pads. The front brakes work but you really have to grab them hard. I''m used to barely needing 2 fingers to do the braking on the SMT, I'm imagining the 1190 is the same??

Have any of you guys changed pads yet? Are the aftermarket ones as good as the OEM ones that cost double? Will brake cleaner help get the oil out the pads?

Brake cleaner will work on the discs but if the pads are contaminated you need to bin them.

I'd be surprised if Bendix pads didn't work at least as well at the originals, and a lot better than any that have oil in them.

Sorry not changed pads yet but as Og says, if the pads have been saturated then they'll need replacing

Bugger.

Ok well the bike has to go to a dealer anyway as the horn doesn't work at all, meaning it's technically not roadworthy so I'll get them to look at the brakes and claim ignorance while it's there.
