990 gone flat - is it the fuel ?

Post by nlovie » Tue Apr 14, 2015 4:21 pm

just done a 400mile round trip
I was in fuel economy mod. steady 80 - 85mph cruse; using high gears -- last fill up, pump was out of regular 95ron fuel - so I filled her up with shell Vpower 98 ron

on the last 10miles home decided to ring it, given i'd got 150 + miles out of a tank before reserve - flat as pancake :( not wanting to rev much past 7K - and she would pick up a bit as you backed off the throttle - felt as if it was over rich choking

So - is it the fuel ? doesn't like higher octane ( unless you map for it) - - is it the ECU negatively adapting due to the way I was riding ?. I have removed the 2nd butterflies but since had her pinned and she revved out nicely
I'll rule the fuel out via the next 2 tank full's - but should I do the 15 min idle ECU re set to clear things up ?
thanks

brilliant - thanks - just read up on fuel filter issues and the symptoms fit perfectly. I'll get this serviced and report back to close out the post. Even if its not - it is a service item I see I need to do
cheers

sorted - pulling like a train, and hitting the rev limiter with ease 8-) :) thanks for pointing me in the right direction
what came out was well over due replacement - a worthwhile note for anyone buying 2nd - I'd consider this one of the 1st service checks if she's got a reasonable amount of miles on her - -i'm actually convincing myself she's running better than when I 1st got her - so it could be a problem that gradually creeps up on you

I just wish they would inc. the pump to tank seal in the not cheap kit ( jjay51 - i'd ordered it before your post :( ) - so mind and also get this
