ECU Tuning 2014 1190 Adventure

Hello,

After having read the air box issues could affect my bike and with having bought a Wings exhaust, I thought I'd better look into tuning the ECU. First thought was Tune ECU. Doesn't appear to be compatible with the 2014 Adventure. So I thought PCV, again, doesn't look to be available. What options are out there for the 2014 1190 Adventure as regards to tuning the ECU?

Why do you think that PCV (Part Number: 18-017) isn't available for your bike?

UK website does not list PCV for 1190 Adventure.

You don't have to buy it from the UK site, there are many other sites you can order it.

I appreciate that mate, but I would have thought if it were available, it would have been on the UK site. Didn't think to check other countries sites ;)

I wont be bothering with any tuning on this, i have the unifilter ready to fit which is supposed to be a bit more restrictive than the standard so coupled with an aftermarket can with baffles in it which apparently the bike doesnt need any tuning done to it, i should be covered.

I looked at the prefilter, it simply replaces the snorkel. I don't know enough about why the standard air box fails to know if the prefilter fixes the problem but if it does, it's a simple fix. Rottweiler filters are very expensive and Geoff doesn't make filter plates for the 1190, I asked him last night lol.

Went out on the bike for the first time the other day and it certainly doesn't need any more power but I like noise and that sometimes leads to further mods lol.

In my opinion there are a number of problems with the basic conception of the airbox, as well as it's implementation.

1. The airbox floor seals to the throttle bodies with the thinnest of flimsy 'O' rings and it is far to easy to misalign them and avoid a perfect seal;

2. The airbox lid does not seal with the box, so allows dirty, dust-laden air in, after the filter and directly into the throttle bodies - NOT GOOD

3. The method of air filter installation and locking in place positively encourages the possibility of a mis-installation. It is quite difficult to see & ensure a good solid seal, particularly at the bottom end of the filter.

If you imagine the power of 'suck' these two throttle bodies generate on full chat, any weakness in conception and or implementation of the airbox will be exploited to the full.

I've never come across such a cock-eyed mess in all my life. Yes, there are a variety of ways to resolve this, but a. at your own expense and b. KTM worldwide know about this but all my local KTM concessionaires deny any knowledge of the issue.

Well i fitted the unifilter and a coupe months later i fitted the powercell for further piece of mind :mrgreen:

Just to add, there is a third revision to the 1190 airbox which involve a new way the fix the air filter into position which eliminates misalignment, but it doesn't address the lid seal issue though. We'll just have to rely on a little grease to aid that.
