New bike damaged cam lobe!

Post by InkedZink » Mon Jun 10, 2019 1:53 am

So I bought a brand new Super Adventure R and brought it in for first service with 700 miles. I mentioned I noticed a sound, almost like plastic vibration or something. They said it was cam chain tensioner, waited 2 weeks for them to replace it ( a 15-30 minute job) and they said it didn't fix the problem so they dug deeper and discovered one of the lobes is damaged. Now they are waiting on a new cam from KTM and I'm stuck making my payment and unable to ride! So.... I'm pretty upset and worried. I would like some advice from people with more knowledge and experience. Should I contact KTM personally? Is this a known or common issue and I shouldn't worry and let them fix it? It feels like they are taking their sweet time and I'm a little nervous about future problems. The wear on the tip of the lobe looked like the it flaked off, how worried should I be about that stuff wrecking a cylinder or cylinder wall? What should I do? I want to just give the bike back and get a different one...
